Cleaning up rust

Hey guys, I was just wanting to know what the best way to clean the rust off of the bottom of my 4runner would be, and how to treat it so that it wont come back. I want to do it myself to save money and to get some hands on. I am also having trouble with my transmission slipping when it is cold and then not acting up at all once its warmed up. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

For rust control, do a google search. There's plenty of good products on the market for it. Search up on Rust Bullet, POR15, and Chassis Saver. Those are the top 3 that come to mind.

As for the transmission, I'm assuming it's an automatic? From my understanding, that is normal for an older auto tranny that is getting worn out. Tranny fluid is thicker when cold and doesn't allow the clutch packs to grab as they should. Odds are, your individual clutch packs are getting worn out. I would drive it till it breaks and replace the tranny.

Lucas transmission additive is wonderful stuff. It won't fix it, but it'll help keep it going if you need time to get the trans serviced or replaced.
