Hi all! I searched around a bit and couldn't find any information on this.

I am interesting in getting a double din touch screen stereo, and as I'm sure you all know, the OEM stereo unit is in a really low position on the dash making it difficult to see.

For those of you who have pulled apart the dash, how hard do you think it would be to fab up a bracket or face plate that would swap the position of the climate controls and stereo, lifting the stereo up to a higher position? Is something like that even doable?

Do you have the auto climate control like pictured? I've personally never dealt with it but have had the dash apart in a 97 and a 2000. I think you could only make it work with the auto climate control. I think you would have to extend the wiring harness. Worst case scenario pop your dash apart and take a look!

Yeah, I've got a limited with the auto climate controls. I'll probably just pop open the dash like you suggested, I just figured I'd see if anyone had tried it yet.
I wouldn't have been surprised to see someone had fabbed up a face plate for this type of swap. I'm figured this would be a popular mod if it's possible.

This is one of those things where if you have to ask, it's a no.

List of what it'll take off the top of my head:

Some cutting, fabbing and welding on the dash supports behind the bezel where the stereo brackets bolt to

Wiring extensions for the climate control and maybe the stereo harness

Complete re-building of the face of the dash bezel, The stereo and climate control are different widths, don't sit flush with each other, the climate control appears to be too wide to fit in the flat portion of the bottom of the bezel and you'll also need to re-make or move the supports for it.

There is also a possiblity that the stereo may interfere with the heater ducting and wiring that runs behind the upper half of the dash bezel, which would require a lot more custom work.

Thanks for the input everyone. That does seem like more trouble than it's worth. No wonder I haven't seen anyone else rig something like this up.
