So after talking to a Garmin vendor, he can cut us a deal.

They must be shipped to one address. The vendor is not willing to ship separate orders at the moment, he just doesn't want to deal with it.

I MIGHT be willing to purchase the bulk order upfront under the following conditions:

1. I get 15 commited members, plus 5 backups.
2. You pay shipping - You can save shipping by combining orders.
3. Paypal funds and you pay the paypal fees.

The discount would be $80 OFF MSRP for the Garmin Inreach which is $450 MSRP. That is about 20% off, the normal group rate discount.

The vendor is in California, so the California guys would be saving on the taxes.

I would pay for the bulk order upfront via credit/paypal. Once I get the order, you pay me and I distribute it to you.

I will NOT take your money upfront.

I know a few of the T4R guys are up for it.

I am still thinking about it, if enough interest is put together, I am willing to do this.

IF I can find another vendor that would be willing to ship each one individually close to the same pricing, I will go that route.

Question on the InReach: I have read reviews that have said you have to have the subscription to each be able to use the GPS function on this device.
Even REI was not able to give me a clear answer
True or False?

this is something I would iike to get in on but would like to have a definitive answer

I can for a fact agree that subscription is not needed. I've had one for nearly two years now. I downloaded the Garmin Earthmate app on my iPhone and use that for much of the mapping needs. Then keep my device strapped to the top of my pack or mounted to my handlebars of my enduro. Used it quite a bit last year on a backcountry trip through BC.

I also like the monthly subscription. I typically only activate the "rescue" features a couple times a year so it makes financial sense to pay the higher monthly fee on those few months.

8/10 would purchase again :)
 
Kudos on the Garmin deal!

Make sure you guys know which InReach you're getting and look at what features you want. Garmin purchased Delorme and sells pretty much the same device for $200 more. If you want to be able to send texts (with free Delorme app) and send out an SOS, like I did, you can purchase a Delorme InReach device, which does the same thing, online for $250, anytime. The retail of Garmin is $450 and the Delorme is $250. I'll let you do the math.

If you want mapping software built-in, go for the Garmin. I use Gaia mapping on my iPhone so I had no use for the Garmin InReach.

Sorry to disrupt any sales that you may get from t4r crew members, but I'm just looking to save all of you some money. I did lots of research before buying my Delorme device and it works great. I use it in Death Valley all the time. If you want me to delete this post (for hijacking your post), let me know and I'll delete it.
