Clutch going out?

So I was just out for a drive and I was stopped on a steep hill. i roasted my clutch a bit taking off up the hill. After this, i was driving on a slight incline going about 35 mph and while trying to accelerate, my rpms sped up without any acceleration. I let off the gas and tried to accelerate again and the same thing. I turned around and coasted back down the hill in neutral. I did smell my clutch burn for a few seconds. After coasting back down about 1/2 mile i drove home on level streets and all seemed fine. Clutch pedal seems normal and I never have any problems shifting into gear. Does this mean its time for a new clutch or could it be something else.

yep time for a new clutch, either the disc and or the pressure plate isnt doing its job anymore. driving on level streets causes much less stress on the clutch than say a steep hill.

When you do replace your clutch, dont forget to get the flywheel surfaced.
 
Is there any way of making sure it is the clutch? I want to get started on this and would hate to find out after it was something else.
 
id bet $5 its the clutch, do it and find out. couldnt hurt, plus you will get some experience on your hands to familiarize you with your vehicle.
 
Do you guys have any recommendations for brands or types? This is something I'm not too familiar with. Thanks!
 
things to look for in a kit is clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and clutch tool.
so yes thats every thing you need!

when i did my clutch i didnt put in a master cylinder or a slave cylinder and then a month after i had the new clutch in they both took a ****. you should change those out while your there

thats good point! with the clutch master and slave running about 30 bucks its a good idea to change them as well. brand new clutch pressure plate vs old seals in cylinders the plate will win!

So its been a few days and I haven't felt any slip in my clutch at all. I haven't burned it since that hill, but it has seemed normal since. Im wondering if maybe it was something else or that my clutch will just all of the sudden go out. Any input with experience with this would be appreciated. I don't want to switch it out yet if its not bad. Could it be that my tranny of diff was slipping?? How would I tell the difference?
 
you admittedly roached it on a hill the disc was glazed from this which meant that the fibers were not coarse enough to grab the flywheel.
its going to go out soon just keep the clutch kit handy until it does.
 
I waited too long and missed out on that beck/arnley clutch kit deal for $90 :redbrick: I found and Aisin kit for $120, so I went ahead and ordered it. Hope I made a good choice.
 
So my Aisin clutch should be getting delivered tomorrow or wednesday. i talked my mechanic down to $300 for the install including resurfacing the flywheel, which seems like a good deal. Is there any gaskets I need or should replace while doing this?
