Blown head gasket to say the least... #6 did have coolant in it.
18159190376_93815f799b_b.jpg

18186867871_f18dd8bedd_b.jpg

Scraped deck. The block must have been surfaced before, there are no chamfers on the edges of the cylinders. The timing cover where the head gasket meets was leaking oil from being uneven.
17997981080_7958b0042a_b.jpg

Removed oil pan and oil pump, scraped oil pan gasket. Removed pistons and rods.

Crankshaft out
18254543360_6570fc9643_b.jpg

18415853626_3c03f0671e_b.jpg

The crank pulley was hardly tight at all, the thing must have been wobbling a while to wear a groove into the end of the crank and destroy the keyway like this. The cost of repairing this crank was too much to justify.
18256076149_04fac25d58_b.jpg

Got another crank and pulley bolt, still looking for a pulley. Crank had some surface rust, cleaned it up and sent it to Bob McKray Performance to be polished.

Yes it is in the back seat of my MKIV :D I have another backseat in much better shape, or else I'd never do this shit.

Down to Precision Cylinder Head, a local machine shop, to get the head resurfaced, new guide seals, and valve job. Block to be surfaced flat with timing cover. Honing will reveal if it needs to be bored.

Head after sandblasting.
18256075279_31b80f4137_b.jpg

#6 after honing. This is the only cylinder with shadowing like this, so I've gone with sleeving the one cylinder rather than boring all six cylinders and having to buy oversized pistons.
17821605273_b7e7d8715d_b.jpg

Now waiting for parts to come back.

ARP head studs and cometic 1.9mm head gasket. Calculation puts the compression ratio just a hair under stock. Versus stock deck height/headgasket thickness, this 7M will be about .006" thicker overall with the cometic considering the current deck height (block has now been resurfaced twice in its lifetime)

You got my two dream cars 89 supra and 1st gen 4runner. I always have a chance to buy but never do. Some people want ferraris or lambos nah. Give me a clean turbo 89 supra and im happy. Maybe a 62 nova wagon will talk me out of both of them..
Anyways super clean car man, glad to see people still rebuild their engines properly. Dont see that much anymore always trying to take shortcuts or go cheap.

Definitely following this. Makes me want to get a move on with my mkIII. Maybe I'll throw up a build thread, too. :D

Looks great man, keep up the good work.

Incredible work. I see you posting on SF now. JamesR33 or something like that? Glad to see you on there and I noticed you picked up an MKIV from your neighbor! Congratulations brother, I'm about to check out that thread now.

Agreed, any twit with a big enough wallet can go buy a Ferrari (2014 is too old! I need the 2016 model to show off with!), it takes someone awesome to appreciate the older cars of the world. An older car with special care and attention shines best in my book.

dang. she's coming along! beautiful engine work.

what's left after the engine goes in? R154 work?

Yep, currently working on the intake manifold, gaskets/water lines, etc. Once it's done, R154, steering rack, suspension, install EVERYTHING.

Definitely following this. Makes me want to get a move on with my mkIII. Maybe I'll throw up a build thread, too. :D

My MKIII hasn't moved an inch in a long time, lol. Both of us need to get a move on. Hopefully yours actually works! Thanks fellow MKIII owner.

Yep I'm there. Finally getting the hang of things. Back in July '14, you were one of the first people to comment on this car, since I bought it from your area. I didn't venture too much onto SF until the MKIV happened. Now I see what all you guys liked so much about the newer Supras.

And heres a little interior piece that needed attention. The A pillar trims are both scratched up and resemble the previous dash more than anything.

I've already bought a good condition passenger side, however, no luck with the driver. Decided to opt for a Lotek A pillar dual gauge pod. The dual is my choice due to the handle, I don't want to lose it.
