coil spring helper

i have a 97 runner limited and was thinking about getting a set of rear coil spring helper. the air bag that goes inside of the rear coil springs. has anyone used these before? i just want to make sure it really is good before i purchase it. i sometimes load or tow things that weigh down the rear suspension and hate that look so i want to get the air bags to help level it back up. any suggestions on how this kit is? thanks ahead.

I read a thread somewhere about this very thing and the op loved them. I have also decided on get this (at some point) and the only problem I have is deciding on the on board air setup...

yeah, i also read up about these air bag kits too, but havent seen anyone use it with a leveling kit. i have a leveling kit on mine and it raised it up quite a bit. now just need to know if these air bag kits will work with the leveling kit on.

I too have the AirLift 1000 kit. I'm running OME 906 springs with a 10mm trim packer and the bags work fine. For them to work the bags has to be able to touch the bottom of the coil bucket and the top of the modified coil bumper otherwise it's just an air bag in a coil.

Third gens came with different in coil bumpers and all require some degree of trimming for the bag to fit. I for get what bumpers I had or how much I removed but even with a longer coil the bag works. My kit came with some giant hockey puck looking things which I believe act as spacers if need be.

I wouldn't really use the bags as a leveling kit. I think the max psi for the bags is 35 psi. anything over 20 or so makes the ride a bit rough and you'll be running on the bags all the time. I leave mine deflated unless I'm loaded with cargo or towing.

I had the bags for about a year, I was towing a boat trailer and went around a corner and one bag blew out and since there was a cut bump sstop, it dropped one side of my runner about 3 inches. The other bagI saw had weather cracks in it soI had to take that one out too. i Went to my local o'riellys and talked to a guy there and he came up with these:



i believe these were originally for chevy van. Much better than the bags!!! Better ride, only get stiff when they need to (under heavy load). It did lift the back of my truck about a half inch though, I'm sure it will settle.

havnt hit the new bump stops once even under very heavy load, just an idea if u dont want to cut your bump stops and need new shocks anyway. They were like $220 for both.

What are those? Are those on place of your shocks?

How is the ride unloaded?

I have Firestone air bags inside my rear coils for heavy loads and it worked fine when I was at stock height and they raised the back to match a 2" spacer lift in the front.

Now they are essentially variable height bump stops in the back with the 891s...

yeah, i get that....im not trying to use it as a leveling kit, but only when taking on a load or towing is when i will inflate it......i have a similar leveling kit already on it right now....here is a link to something similar that i have.

I have the air lift bags inside my Superflex coils. I regularly have my dirtbike on a hitch carrier and it was ok, but a little too saggy. After I installed the bags it helped a ton, but because the springs are longer than stock, it was only touching the sides of the coils. I recently put the top off a front Civic strut (my garage is almost a Civic graveyard) under the bag to space it up and it seems to have helped it a good bit more. I just let almost all the air out when I am not carrying anything heavy and the ride is great! Hope this helps.

I had air lift 1000s on a Suburban a few years ago and I loved them. Make it stiff for towing and let the air out for comfort. It was the best of both worlds.
