Cold night = loud heater sound

So it's the second day in a row. Start the car. Turn the heat on low and a fan sound that is god awful comes from behind the glove box. Turn it on and off a few times and by the 5 or 6 try it goes away. Never happened before. Any thoughts? 07 sr5

I think your blower fan might be going out. Does changing the fan speed affect it?

You could replace it, or if you are DIY inclined maybe pull it out and put a drop of light oil on the bearing(s) if they are not sealed. Also check for broken blades or obstructions, and check your cabin air filter.

Thanks. I just relaced the filter. It worked fine for a month. Something about sub 30 temps kills it. I should know more this weekend as its my turn to drive to ski. Any link on how to pull it or get to it?

The sound is like that of the fan belts on cars starting screaming at start up.

when I changed mine it was chirping like a flock of baby birds

the auto stores have replacements at a fraction of the cost of the dealer
unfortunately the aftermarket ones have a lot of brush whine noise

there's a thread on here about how to fix that noise but was too much trouble for me
