Cold Starting Issue

I have a 2000 4wheel drive SR5 that I purchased last January with 185,000 miles. I noticed right away that on cold starts the truck would idle high around 1500 rpms for about 10 - 15 minutes while in park. Afterwards it drops down to about 700 rpms and runs fine. However, if I attempted to drive before the truck is fully warmed up, it runs awful. Feels like I have no torque and shifts very high. I know most toyota trannys require a warm up period but is this normal? As the summer came but it did shorten to about 5 mins but now that it's getting cold again the warm up time is back up to 15 mins.

Is there anything I can do about this or is this normal?

Things I've done: replaced sparks plugs n cords, air filter, bad fuel injector, fuel injector o-rings, cleaned MAF sensor and throttle body.

Yes it's normal for it to idle high until it warms up. It's also normal for it to hold second gear until you reach about 2700 rpm before it shifts to third. It shouldn't run badly, just rev higher until warm.

You said 1500 high idle and 700 after it's warmed up, sounds about right to me but a good tune up is never a bad thing.

Yeah but should it idle that high for over 5 minutes even when it is warm out? I did a full tune up, plus sea foam and got the same result. I was thinking of cleaning out the idle air control valve next.

I've never let my truck just sit there and idle to see how long it takes to come down. 5 minutes may be long..? If it is delayed I would think more likely your temperature sensor is not reading accurately rather than the IAC is messed up. But like I said, it never hurts to clean stuff up and give her a tune.

Consider replacing the engine coolant temp sensor. Perhaps it is a little off and making the computer think it is not warming up as fast. I have seen this on the 2.7 Toyota, as well as several 3400 GM engines.
