Color matched grille - done with pics

Well I didn't get as far as I hoped, and I am barely able to type this message.

Here is a picture of the grille during the day like I promised:

I was able to remove the emblems and paint them, but try as I might, I could NOT get some of the adhesive off of the rear hatch. I tried WD40, nail polish remover, 3M Adhesive Remover and even lighter fluid. None of those would get this sh!t off and it's really getting on my nerves. I tried everything I could, even heating with a hair dryer until it didn't work any more. My fingers are so sore:bash:

Any other ways I could get the crap off?

that looks awsome! and thanks for the step by step. ill be doing mine soon.

Thanks and good luck! Now that I really think about it, I am digging the black emblem look. Once I get my clear corners, that will really set it off. And after I remount the rest of my black badges

Edit: Just painted the lug covers (I am on a painting binge right now) and gave the emblems a third coat. I started a fire in one of our fireplaces and put the 4 covers right next to it. Now my house smells like paint and smoke and my mom is pissed. But I gotta do what I gotta do :biggrin2:

Kelly!!!!! looks good as far as the adhesive from the badging (ive debagged my rig) it is super hard to get all off but its possible as i remember my fingers hurt for days after but i also used all types of adhesive removers and i used a clay bar and polishing and rubbing compound to get it all off and its all off now so it just takes a ton of work.

Yeah my fingers are killing right now, but at least most of the adhesive is off, but I retired for the night and will have to roll with a bit of the residue on the back tomorrow until I get them back on. What would be the best way to reattach the emblems? I don't know if I'll be putting all of them back on.

And I just remembered that I forgot the 2 "Limited" emblems on the side pillars.:bash:

I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow it seems haha.

Thanks for the input rdg. What would be a good clay bar to use? Meguiars?

goo gone for the sticky crap .....

back to the paint color .. you can take your paint code into most auto body supply shops and get them to mix a can of spray paint in your exact paint code for like $8-$10.... not a LOT of money.

Cool... thanks for that info. Unfortunately its hard to find a shop like that in my area. I'm assuming you're talking about some place other than Advanced Auto Parts?

Regardless, I'm satisfied with the outcome.

looks like it matches up pretty good to me. and yes it is a pain on the emblems but its worth it. and i know what you mean about having hurt fingers, my nails were killin me for days!

Yeah, I mean it's a bit lighter shade that the rest of the car but only someone who stares it down for a few minutes is going to be able to tell the difference

Thanks! Yeah, I might end up doing that actually. Got the badges on today, I'll get a pic up later. I wasn't able to get rid of all the residue, so I used it as a template so I knew where to reattach the emblems:bash:

Kelly you're a jerk... so after seeing what you did i decided not only to paint my grill black but all the grey plastic black too, and badges in silver :) kinda exact opposite of you. Ill put some picks up when it all dries

Nice! That should look cool. Make sure you get up some pics for sure

I got all my badges painted (minus the 2 Limited's on the pillars) and got my TRD badge in the mail 2 days ago, along with my Hella's. Its only about 12 degrees here today but I think I'm still gonna install them today haha
