Add a piece of tape where? Like mask it off? Yes I did and i recommend you do the same. They've lasted about a year and a half now, and no i just plasti dipped the part you can see because I knew it was just a temporary thing. They've held up quite well actually

I heard after dipping the handles you put a piece of electrical tape on the inside of it (aka the back side where your fingers would touch) that way it won't pull on you.

I didn't see if you answered whether or not you had painted the inside of the handle where it actually hinges. or did you just spray completely over it?

i didnt care for the chrome handles so i cheaped out and got the carbon fiber looking handle covers & painted them, (not plastidip) fit was good & it was much easier than changing the whole handle, holds up well.

I just masked off around it and sprayed. Got the back as good as I could.
