If they are good, I'm sure enough locals can be found for other things: finding the trails, recovery team, BBQ, spotters, camera folks, people to stand around watching and picking their nose.

We already have a trip planned/booked/paid from June 19th through the 27th back to her hometown in Idaho, otherwise I would have jumped all over your suggestion. But after showing her some pics of the area, she started checking things out and decided she liked a vacation in the Rockies better than day trips from home, hence the May availability.

We might end up just planning a trip anyway, whether the 3rd Gen folks can make it or not, now that she's open to the idea. I could swing by the folks at Rocky Road in Utah and help them prototype some SuperSliders for the 5th Gen TE and then we could pick them up on our way to Colorado.

Anyway, I hope we can do this.:thumb3:

I think that was just a hotel suggest based on it's central location.

I'm still waiting to see if anyone but me signs on for the 5th Gen team. As much as I like the idea, if it's only going to be me representing the 5th Gens that doesn't really do much to "prove" anything one way or the other. Which defeats the whole point of the challenge.

We'll be using credit card rewards to pay for the room, but once they are booked we are locked in and we can't get them back if the situation changes. If we don't have any other 5th Gens committed to this by April 11th, which is when my wife will be booking the rooms, then I'm going to use my free hotel nights doing something else (like Yellowstone) and save the run out to Colorado for a different time.

Hopefully, it won't come to that :sadwave:

Hey, I am with you! if we cant recruit any other 5th Gens to do this, then its not worth doing the stock vs. stock challenge. I completely agree.

It would still be worth your time/energy to come see Colorado and wheel with us at T4r.org and Rm4wd.org even if we cant pull off the competition!

I cant tell you how much I respect you stepping up and yes, If I had a NEW 4runner it would be hard to wheel, but I would have accepted a competition and you have accepted the challenge!! I hope others will follow in your footsteps! I would love to see what these new "prodigies" are capable of! Just think!, we could be the first ones to really see what the 5th Gens could do! The video of this 10 years from now could tell about one of the greatest "Stock" offroad vehicles of all time! LOL if it can knock off a 3rd gen, then we should find a real Hummer and see if it can keep pace with it! But, Im getting ahead of myself! super excited to meet you Mike, always thought about moving to Seattle!! :0)

we are working on some trails that have lots of features that could be used,

definitely a network of trails in the mountains right outside of Denver, Co.

that way if one trails playground gets exhausted, we can make a quick run over to another trail with other features...

the beauty of Colorado and its 4wheel trails! ck out TrailDamage.com and let me know if you have any suggestions! :)

My suggestion is that you pick something by April 5th so I can read some reviews and voice any objections. If we don't have an agreed upon trail or three before April 11th, I may have to beg off. If I let my wife book us and we get there only to find out you've picked Carnage Canyon, well... let's just say my beautiful and loving wife might rip off your nuts and carry them home as a trophy ;):

Remember, the point is to see if the stock 5th is AS or MORE capable than the stock 3rd, not see if we can break the 5th's drive train or rip off it's mirrors... I can do that in downtown Seattle. I think anything more than a 4 or 5 on their high-end rating system is the best you can expect a stock vehicle to do. Also, keep in mind that while this is *your* back yard, we still have two days of driving to get back home and we can't do that in a busted vehicle. As much as I like the idea of something like the Grizzly Lake trail (high end 6), I don't think the stock ground clearance gets us over some of the obstacles.

Still... I've bookmarked that trail for the future. :lookout:
 
We are going to go ahead and make other plans for her vacation. I'm sorry if this lets anyone down but the lack of any other 5th Gens makes the whole trip a tough sell.
