There are videos on youtube of Golden Eagles taking down deer and goats, but for some reason they like cats. Not to eat, they just seem to like chillin with them on peoples' decks in AK. also on youtube. Maybe some kind of predator meeting, swap stories about best kills of the week.

Man that's awesome. I know the ranchers don't want them, but they help trim the Deer and Elk herds of the sick and excess numbers, ultimately keeping them healthier. Its good to see them around if you ask me.

That reminds me- I spotted this Bald Eagle sitting on the bank of the river the other day, watching for fish. Talk about a stone cold predator.

I agree. To me it is a sign of a healthier ecosystem, the same way I feel about seeing wild turkeys back east. Coming upon that wolf up above tree line in the middle of winter was such a wonderful and unexpected treat.
That eagle is impressive. What a wonderful sight. Thanks for sharing.

One buddy thinks it is a coyote, but I'm not willing to concede yet. A Winter Park local with a large snowmobile rental business said they are around.

You know, I went back and forth when you posted those first photos, but with that angle its tough to tell for sure without a good shot of its ears and snout. My money says its probably a wolf, but if its a coyote thats a damn big one.

There have been unconfirmed sightings for years, but about 3 years ago a tagged wolf out of Yellowstone was tracked all the way down here. Unfortunately it got hit on I-70, but now we know for sure they're back.

Any recommendations for homeowner's insurance out here? Or companies to avoid?

Looks like a Coyote, wolves don't like to climb up into the mountains.

It's also carrying itself like a Coyote, wolves are bigger and more muscular, so they don't prance about on the snow like that.

I live in the mountains and see half of a dozen of those nasty things a week. I wish the wolves came in and killed them off.

Most people I know seem to bundle everything with State Farm, home, auto, life, IRA etc. I'm pretty happy with their service at any rate

Ok, I'll give them a call. I was with them for a long time before they started rate-jacking in FL to get out of hurricane zones. It seems like it's a lot easier to get insurance out here, and cheaper.

Well historically I would agree with you, but over the last year they have be paying out some serious cash to all the homeowners who lost their houses in the wildfires the last few years, so the insurance rates have been cranked across the board along with increased clear cutting zone requirements. Up here they want people to clear all the brush and trees 30 feet from structures, which is insane. People don't want to deforest their properties so it could get interesting.

The first year they jacked rates in FL, they went up 50%, the 50% again the following year. Then they stopped issuing new policies and wouldn't allow changes to existing. They were in a fight with the FL govt and decided it was just better to price themselves out of the market there. I hope that doesn't happen here.

That's what eventually drove me to Farm Bureau... anyone here have experience with them in CO?

Allstate dumped the policies all along the Gulf Coast and in Florida after Katrina.

I still remember those bastards sending out letters as to how it was too expensive for them to keep up policies for people living along the coast--but then they pretty much extended it to anywhere within an hour's drive of the coast and most of the Florida peninsula.

Then they were back about two years later begging people to come back to them with bundle deals on car and home insurance.

I wonder how many people have Allstate in the Gulf Coast states after their desire to dump policy holders.

Thought I would post this up for you CO folks. Climb To Glory is an incredible film about the 10th Mountain Division during WWII. It wont be available for sale for quite a while but it is making its way to charity functions across the state, so if you get a chance to see it, I couldnt recommend it highly enough. Our entire modern mountain sports industry was revolutionized by these guys.

So an overwhelming amount of Colorado Sheriffs, private citizens, and gun corporations have filed suit against Hickenlooper's asinine 15 round magazine bans and private sale background checks.

The case started yesterday in Denver.

The argument is that the laws passed last year were knee jerk and more based on emotion and not any actual data or statistics, a violation of 2A rights, and are for the most part unenforceable (and Sheriffs have already stated they wouldn't enforce them). Furthermore, when the State legislature was ramming these MAIG/Bloomberg-drafted laws down Coloradans throats, Sheriffs and pro-2A supporters weren't given equal time to state their case as the anti-gun hypocrites who used baseless emotional arguments--two of which have been shown the door, and another who resigned to save her ass from a recall.

If this case gets Hickenlooper's laws overturned, it'd be a ray of hope that Colorado isn't lost to invading liberals, who weren't satisfied with destroying California. If it gets thrown out (this IS the People's Republic of Denver, after all) then there's always Wyoming and Montana.

I don't know about Old Stage but Rampart Range Rd won't be opened for a long time, at least not from GOG to Rampart Reservoir.

You can get to Old Stage from east of Cripple Creek, isn't most of the damage closer to the Springs?

Yeah, I figured as much about rampart. And yeah... I dont want to go the long way, but was kinda hoping beyond actual likelihood that old stage was open. Probably still a lot of work to do to the tunnels and such.
