Colorado BS thread

I was just in FoCo for their warmest fall in a while.

Hoping it's still nice when I move back in December.

I don't feel like using my snow tires to their fullest this winter.

I hope we get a ton of snow down where I am at. I want to get full use out of my snowboarding pass.

Do you just live in CO for the winter?

BV and Salida whitewater parks are way too much fun. You live in a pretty killer spot!

No, I had to deal with some health issues the old man was having and needed to be closer to home, and I'm working to move him and mom up here closer to me once they retire... but it's turned out that I've spent more winters in CO than summers:D

I got a season pass to SKi Cooper so we will see how that goes. It has been 4 or 5 years since I have been boarding, so I am really looking forward to it. We are getting our first snow this morning.

You know, it seems like most people we meet down there are all about the whitewater, but hardly any of them ski or snowboard? Just thought it was interesting because river summers and ski/ride winters fit together so perfectly. Not to mention you have some badass backcountry access all around you.

First snow here too! cannot. wait. must. ski.

I can get that, the river is only a couple blocks from where I live. I just moved here so I haven't done any white water stuff, hoping I can do that during summer. There are 2 Ski Resorts that are within 45 minutes, so not sure why more people aren't into ski/boading. I should have my lift and tires on by summer and hopefully I can explore some more trails. I was in FoCo for about 5 months when I first moved to Colorado, and it was a fun town.

The wife and I are thinking about becoming dreaded transplants from dreaded California! Obviously, this is a big undertaking. I was one a CSU Ram many years ago, and loved living there. We took a trip out for a long weekend a few months ago, and she was hooked. Anyone have any tips on good neighborhoods around Denver or Boulder? We really liked LoHi, but a local's perspective is always appreciated.

Will you and your wife have jobs waiting? Our obscene population growth has outpaced job growth for several years now, so any openings turn into a ridiculous feeding frenzy. Just a word of warning before you make concrete plans.

Well, that's part of the problem. I'm trying to apply for jobs remotely, while keeping my existing job here in CA. Afraid that my address on my resume is scaring off any potential employment, even though I can start in 2 weeks just like anyone else.

I don't know if I'd worry about your address, since most of your competition is probably from out of state too. Its all about top of the line qualifications and experience, since employers now have the luxury of picking the cream of the crop.

Your two biggest barriers are jobs and housing. A client of mine owns apartment buildings in Denver and Boulder, and he has been raising rents 15 percent annually because of the housing crush. Don't expect to find any sort of decent housing for less than $700 per room, if you can find any at all.

If by chance you are looking to buy, I can set you up with a good broker. However, just to forewarn you, I spoke with a front range real estate attorney two weeks ago- he's currently involved in a deal in Boulder where the property was listed for sale, and in 24 hours the listing broker had received 52 offers, which is about par for the course these days. Its total insanity.

I don't mean to douse your hopes because your wife is right, its an awesome place to live. I just don't want you to and your wife to be in the range of people who move here unprepared and have to leave after exhausting your savings because you cant find work or an affordable place to live long term. Seen a few pieces in the news about that recently.

Thanks for all your advice! We're definitely taking this seriously, and aren't rushing into it unless we find the right opportunity, but will probably ramp up our search after the beginning of the year.

I just moved from SoCal to Colorado in February. I was in Fort Collins for a few months, what an awesome town that is. I wish you luck on finding a job and housing.

You can definitely find something. I found employment here in Glenwood Springs while I still lived in NY. Its wonderful living here for sure.
