Yeah, they said they were having 60 mph winds and stuff. What really sucks it that it was a clear day, and that can be somewhat hard to come by when you plan in advance. Oh well, we'll be back. =)

We drove through Monument on the way to Pikes peak and it was definitely too rural. We aren't necessarily city people but having businesses that we frequent close by is a plus. And it looks like Castle Rock is in a newer stage of development than say, Centennial. We went there Sunday and it was nice, but very crowded already. Plus the views in Castle Rock were excellent.

Holy crap what is with the traffic coming into Denver? Yesterday was rough but today, coming in from Boulder, we moved about 1 mile every 20 minutes. An hour and a half later we finally decided to take the Westminster exit for dinner.

I guess I can see why people are less than thrilled when they hear about people moving here. I kept thinking there must be an accident or something, but we never saw one and there was nothing in the news or traffic alerts.

Well, to make this trip a little worse I ended up getting some kind of flu bug later Tuesday night and ended up at Denver Health yesterday. What an awful way to waste vacation days. Oh well, the first few days were great and the snow looked nice.

Nice - Denver Health. NOW you've really seen some of the worst we have to offer! Well, unless you've been out to Northeast Aurora, that is.

Denver Health is a rock-star Level 1 Trauma center but other than that, I wouldn't use it on a regular basis.

For now, I'm looking into some rental properties near Castle Rock (and as far north/northeast as Parker). Hopefully I find something that meets our needs and timeline.

Excellent Bofa! I'd think you can find some good rental homes in Castle Rock. It was quite overbuilt at one point...in particular to the far West side down there with some very nice large homes. Totally suburban of course.

Parker is just, well, Parker. Used to be so great as kid. It was truly horse country. Now it's soccer moms and SUV's on 6 lanes of traffic...but it IS easier to get into Denver from Parker than Castle Rock most of the time.

Excellent Bofa! I'd think you can find some good rental homes in Castle Rock. It was quite overbuilt at one point...in particular to the far West side down there with some very nice large homes. Totally suburban of course.

Parker is just, well, Parker. Used to be so great as kid. It was truly horse country. Now it's soccer moms and SUV's on 6 lanes of traffic...but it IS easier to get into Denver from Parker than Castle Rock most of the time.

Thanks! I hope so. We want to live in Castle Rock, preferably west of 25, but for now I'll be flexible on rentals. I'm hoping to find something in the Meadows though... that would be perfect!

I hear ya on Parker. The only reason its in consideration is because my wife may have landed a job at one of the schools there, so it makes a good back-up destination I guess, for now anyway.

Things are moving right along and I am pumped!!

Castle Rock is nice and I'm partial to the SW of Denver side anyway and the areas that are tucked close to the foothills which limits growth and close to the trails. Hope you enjoy living here.

That's precisely why I've been so adamant about being west of 25. It was pure luck that we ended up over there during our trip, before I got sick, and I loved it. Closer to the mountains, great views, and you can only build so far.

I've read enough of your posts in various places to know I'm pretty damn happy you guys are moving here. We need more common sense and less bullshit in this state. Here are my quick observations:

-Castle Rock and Golden would be my picks if I had to live on the front range again. But I dont, so that being said, move to VAIL :thumb:

-Dont wrap your pipes with wet cloth. Do that to your neighbor if you really hate him.

-Every kind of food tastes better cooked at high altitude

-Getting drunk up here happens faster :beer:

-Cost of living might be higher, but you do have the advantage of living where life really, really doesn't suck.

-There is no such thing as bad weather; only bad clothing choices

Man I would love to live further up in the mountains, but I probably need to stay within reasonable distance of the big city in case my job ever goes away. Plus with my wife teaching, there are a lot more opportunities in the 'burbs for her. I did consider it though.

Yep that's the one I'm referring to... we used to go in there and chow down. Those are some of the best wings I've ever had. Its a good thing beer is vegetarian.

Sadly no, I just misread your post to a pretty incredible degree. Apparently I thought you wrapped your pipes when they were dripping? I dont know. Although we do own a property where a former disgruntled neighbor cut our sprinkler system tubing in five places. He was a real dick. And in jail now for an unrelated offense

Oh, haha... yeah in the South we have to wrap any exterior pipes during freezes and have to leave interior faucets dripping as well. It's kind of a pain and I posed that question earlier because I couldn't imagine you do that every time is freezes there.

That guy sounds like a tool - glad he got busted for something. I'm pretty sure a neighbor sprayed something on our front lawn, killing it, but can't prove it. This was after they had a late night party and had friends throwing chicken bones over the fence to our dogs. I collected them, put them in a Ziploc and delivered them by ringing their doorbell at 7AM the next morning. We usually keep to ourselves, but that one got me pretty hot.
