That looks like some quality work! Love that mesh more and more everytime I see it. Do the letters man! I'd love to see how it turns out. Will probably cause me to change my mesh and go with the raptor letters myself...

I have an 03 but I did an 06 facelift.. i just ordered a pelfreybilt bumper not sure if the 06 grill works with the stock 03 bumpers.. just picked up the grill tonight though.. It looks so bad ass can't wait to hook it up...

Did this couple weeks ago before I joined the forums. I actually need to re center the letters because of the way the mesh curves with the grille.

My Satoshi! First DIY!

So, I attempted to make my own Satoshi Grill...:eyebrows: I've been looking around and could not find any threads with grills that have the big bottom piece, like mine has.I'm pretty enthused with the overall look, but if anyone has any cosmetic advice I'm all ears!:biggrin1:

I am getting ready to Satoshi-ize my 2008 UrbanRunner. I plan to modify my own grill, buy the mesh with Land Cruiser emblem from Custom Car Grills (https://www.customcargrills.com/Custom-Toyota-4Runner-Grills.asp), then take it somewhere to have it painted.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Does the hood latch properly with the grill removed? I figure it might take me a month, between modifying the grill, getting it painted, and putting in the mesh. Can I drive the car with no grill?

2. In the how-to video from Custom Car Grills, they use a "mesh reinforcement" to fill holes where most people have used fiberglass. They use Plio Grip where most people use Bondo. Anyone use these techniques/products? Did it work well? Easy? Where did you get the mesh reinforcement?

Thanks!

That's awesome man. Looking forward to pics of how things go.

Unfortunately part of the hood latch is connected to the grille so unless you have some other way of securing your hood down, you wouldn't be able to drive without the grille in place. When I made mine, I was fortunate to have a replacement grille to use while I was making my satoshi grille. Taking the grille on and off is a fairly simple process so you might want to tackle it in a couple of steps and put the grille back on between steps to allow you to still drive your 4runner.

I just watched the how-to video on customcargrills.com for the first time tonight and I've got to say, their method looks extremely simple and user friendly. I unfortunately don't have any experience with that plastic epoxy like substance but it looks simple enough and appears to work just as well as bondo would. Had I seen this video prior to doing mine, I would probably have used this method as the process with the fiberglass backing and bondo is a lot messier and more time consuming.

Keep us posted on the process of your grille and feel free to ask more questions should you run into any issues.

Good luck!

From my experience, I think using a styrene sheet backer would be easiest of all. See post #4 in my Satoshi how-to thread. Obviously, please use whatever method you feel will work best for you.

Also, the glazing & spot putty is critical to get a smooth surface for painting - a lesson that I spent a lot of time & aggravation to learn. :-(

So glad you brought this up, I was about to ask the same question. I found one picture of it ages ago and since have not been able to find any guides or anyone whose even done that.

4th Gen Satoshi

Just finished the satoshi on my '08 Urban Runner. Thanks to papabeachs for walking me through this mod and helping me along the way. May do a post on how we built this grill, etc.

Any instrest in Satoshi Grills for 03-05 4Runners?

I will soon be making Satoshi grills with raptor lettering for 4th gen 4Runners (03-05). They will be priced at $320 USD plus shipping. Any interest?

The attached photo is the precut grill I will be using for my first prototype. I will be using aftermarket 03-05 grills to build around which can then be painted in oem paint colours.

I do not have a website and will be operating solely through forums at least for now. Currently I am preparing for my first prototype so by the time it is finished I will have an example of the final product and will be ready to start making grills for any interested buyers.

My account is very new on this forum but as soon as I am permitted to create my own post I will do that so it is easy for me to reach anyone who is interested. For now if you are interested or have any questions let me know so it is easier to judge the intrest in these for me and easier for you guys to know what you are buying.
