Replace the entire rear axle and it should get you back on the road. We had a 3rd gen that did the exact same thing and we ended up selling it. We really should have replaced the rear axle and kept it.

If the panhard bar rusted off of the rear axle I can only imagine what the remainder of the components look like under there. OP already confirmed that its really bad. I doubt it worth the money to pay someone to replace the axle alone. Sure, it would probably get it road worthy for a little longer but ultimately I don't see it lasting very much.

As mentioned it is no longer safe to drive. Looks pretty bad under there but if you want to make sure that it's time to go you can lay on the ground and rap on all the flat frame surfaces with something pointy like the claw side of a hammer. Go for the bottom center sections especially just behind the front wheels and in front of the rear ones. If you can't break through then it may be worth putting a used rear axle in to get you the awhile longer. My guess is you will break through in multiple spots. You could also ask your mechanic to check the rest of the frame for perforation. I'd hate to condemn it until you know it's really done for but all things look that way.

The panhard bar does not prevent body roll. That what the sway bar does. The panhard keeps the axle under the truck. It should not be driven without a panhard at all. Not even slowly.

I know that Texas is a long way from New York but a local salvage yard has a 2006 limited v8 4wheel drive that is totally rust free. The body has heavy damage down the driver side but the frame is excellent and still has the factory paint on it for the most part. I changed the frame on my 2004 a couple of months ago and it was not too bad.
He is asking $1500 for the complete rolling chassis with engine, trans, transfer case and suspension.
Might be a long shot option.
