Complete OME lift experiences

I'm planning on going down to just vehicle, and I'm never selling the 4Runner, so the VW will be gone. My current suspension setup is a bit harsh for the family, 4600's/stock coils(replacements from autozone).

I like my current height, 13in from top of rim to bottom of arch and don't want to go much higher.

I'm debating between the Sonoran Steel 7.2, and the complete OME from Toytec.

There are tons of reviews and opinions on the springs but I couldn't find any talk about the OME shocks. Anyone know how they are? I'm not looking for a cushy ride, just a bit more forgiving than the 4600's.

I'm also planning on adding skids and sliders, if that makes a difference. I think that may add 200lbs+-.

Any opinions or advice is appreciated!

I ran the full OME kit from Toytec on my 2001 Sport Edition. Great suspension. No complaints. Old Man Emu gets my full vote. I just installed Toytec's OME on my 4th Gen V8 and it's perfect.

I have been on the OEM 881 890 coils and soft shocks for stock weight for a few months now and I love it. Rides smooth but firm on the streets, soft and way smoother than stock spring and kyb shocks when off road or rough roads i can go a lot faster on rough roads with less harshness to the ride, flexes pretty dam well and lastly looks good. I had no iusses with the install, alignment or rubbing of spindle on coil which is common with the Tundra coils.

I like the OEM setups. This is with 861 rears and OME fronts

I got the 881 front/890 rear springs, with what were described as the "sport" OME shocks: 90004 front, 60027 rear.
If there is a "softer" shock than these available, I'd recommend them.
These shocks are, IMO, primitive in design compared to the Bilsteins I had on a previous vehicle. They seem to have speed sensitive valving, so slow hits are softer(which is good), but they seem NOT to have amplitude-sensitive valving, which means that they remain stiff even if the hits are small, which gives a very hard, 'lumber truck' ride when the vehicle is lightly loaded. Once I've got 500 or more pounds of people and/or stuff in the truck, they are quite nice, and keep firm control on the highway.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I actually called SS the other day and Steve seemed less than enthusiastic while answering my questions. Not a jerk or anything, just a little indifferent. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have looked for other options.

I want to maintain the stock appearance, but more capable. Depending on where life takes me in the next few months I may add a full Shrockworks skid.

How do you think the extra weight will affect the OME suspension?

My vote is for OME

Here's mine with the 3" HD OME, With winch and ARB bumper. No sagging and it's been on a year so I think you would be fine

I have a 2000 limited and just put the ome 880/906 with bilstein 5100 shocks all around. Gives a look that should have come from factory and it rides very nice. Huge improvement over stock. Of course I got it with 140,000 and now it has 220000 but this is a huge improvement. Body roll is gone, brake dive is gone, and so far I have not hit anything that upsets the ride. It is not as firm as my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee but it doesn’t sage and bounce off the bump stops anymore. I drive 528 miles a week for work so I will see how it does on the road this week but I have been driving all over the place this weekend. If you like a stiff ride go with ome shocks or 4600 bilsteins but that just below stiff, but great handleing I would use this set up.
Also, funny, but arb says not to use bilstein shocks with their springs, and bilstein says not to use their shocks with ome springs. But they mate so well together. Oh well.

I've been running 906's and 880's for 2 yrs and love the ride. The 906's in back seem to take all scenarios perfectly. From rough back country roads to towing my sportboat, they're great! I am running different shocks--- Rancho 9000XL's, but if I was to do it again I'd probably choose Billes. I thought it would be interesting to have adjustable shocks, but to my mild disappiontment, they make little difference over the adjustment range...

I wouldn't hesitate to choose OME's again.

Not the best OME experience

Hey all, I had OMEs for about a year, and then found out my front shocks were completely toast. Whether I rode them too hard or got a defect pair, I wasn't super impressed with OME. It rode decently but definitely pretty stiff. My rear shocks have been annoyingly squeaky since day one. Not to mention cosmetics... All four of my shocks are rusted to heck. Yes, I live in Montana and my T4R sees harsh winters, but I also try to wash my car once a week regardless of the season. Overall, I'm pretty stoked to have switched to 5100s for my front end. They've been riding real nicely with my OME 2883s thus far.
