Training, training, training (or practice, practice, practice)!!! Malfunction in an auto = "Tap, rack, bang!" Have a buddy load your magazine for you, inserting a snap cap somewhere in line with the live rounds. During your shooting drill, you'll come across the snap cap and will need to deal with the situation, which will help imprint the correct technique for clearing/reloading the malfunction. I'm able to participate in "practical pistol" sessions at my club (similar to IDPA and IPSC), and hitting a snap cap during those drills is the best way I've found to practice for malfunctions (although not good for your score/time, VERY good for "real-world" experience). When I get a FTF, stovepipe, etc. I don't even have to think about it anymore; "Tap, rack, bang!" is automatic.
MikesToy, as I had previously stated, church is statistically one of the more likely places you may need your firearm! Remember the shooting at the church in the Springs just a few years ago? (Here and here.) Jeanne was/is a CCW holder and took out the gunman, heroically saving who knows how many lives. At the time, the media falsley decided to credit the perp with taking his own life. Can't have a CCW holder saving the day, now can we? :rant:

Yeah, i remember about that on the news. That church is about 8 miles from my house. IMO, I just can't go to church and bring a gun just in case. That's just not me. I'd rather bring a gun when i have to go to Wally World, gas stations, especially at the bank.

When i bought my guns, it came with a cleaning kit (bottle of lube, a long metal brush, a small baby toothbrush, and some eyeglass wipes). But that was like almost 2 decades ago during the Rodney King crisis.

For Militec-1 users, how many of you actually followed the instructions??? I actually did...and it is not simple. Here it is: http://www.militec-1.com/applicationinstructions1.html
For me, I lubed up with Militec and put my gun parts out under the sun for several hours. I even applied it before and after shooting a few rounds when i first used it.
I "think" that the Militec did bond with my gun metal because there is a slight permanent discoloration after i let it bake under the sun. I had some surface scratches on my gun and it disappeared afterwards. So, not sure if it is my imagination, but Militec seemed to work well for me.
From what i have read, the ONLY negative thing about Militec 1 is that it apparently does not prevent rust as good as conventional oil. This apparently led the US military to deny Militec for its use in combat. BUT, soldiers have been pushing for Militec for years now because Militec works extremely well in bad environment (aka sand of Iraq!).
For me, i usually "over do it" when it comes to cleaning my gun...and i do clean after EVERY gun range exercise. So, rusting is not an issue for me, but i guess that it can be if you don't clean your guns often, esp. if you conceal carry it against your body (aka moisture!). And this is where many folks (including my brother) have switched over to Mobil 1. Mobil 1 is pretty long-lasting and does prevent rust...and it is proven itself in the harsh car engine environment. My brother, who is a total gun nut, is sold on Mobil 1.

I use Strike Hold CLP because of the sand bowl I live in. It repels dirt better than any other product Ive used.

I would like to buy some more of the Mil-Comm Tw-25B but at $46 dollars for 8 oz.. I can get like 6 quarts of Mobil 1 for that price..
Don't get me wrong, I like using Mil-Comm but for the price though.. Remington Oil just disappears.. plus is flammable too..
Where as Mil-Comm and Mobil 1, it stays there and doesn't disappear..

I have baked it on everything I own. Quite literally, in the toaster oven at a set temperature (can't recall what temp, I think about 200).
I have had great luck using it that way. Things seem to clean easier after proper application too. After cleaning, I will wipe the parts down with a combination of Militec and RemOil soaked into a cloth, just enough to leave a sheen. It doesn't go anywhere like this, and has worked quite well on every firearm (pistols, rifles, and shotguns) and knife I've used it on.
I do live in a pretty dry climate though, so I'm not sure if this would be sufficient for more humid locals. FWIW, it has been fine on my carry weapons (knives and pistols) in the summer, and I sweat a lot.

How do you like the rubber grip on the Glock? I have a G23 and I have been thinking about trying to improve the grip but you are pretty limited to what you can do to a Glock. I made the mistake of holding a Colt Defender the other day and I really want to get a feel similar to that.

I tried a slip-over rubber grip like that on my XD sc. I decided to remove it as it was not pleasant against my skin for carry. Kept feeling like I was getting pinched. I also didn't like how it "grabbed" at fabric; made prinitng a problem.
However, I definitely liked how it made the gun feel whilst shooting! Better ergonomics for sure!
