Conceal Handgun...What do you carry?

I have a Taurus .357 Revolver. I don't carry it on me or in my car as I don't have a concealed weapon permit. I do keep it in my bedside nightstand just in case I have an "unexpected visitor" at 3:30am!

Not to highjack this thread, but a great story from here in Atlanta about 4 months ago. A young thief (aka, gangster; thug) brakes into the home of an 81 year old man in the wee hours of the am. Anyhow, after a brief struggle, the 81 year old shoots the the young criminal..........dead. Wrong house to break into dude. The cops show up and no charges filed against the elderly man for defending his own life.

I must admit I LOVE hearing stories like this! :awais:

Hey! I have that exact same gun, it was the first gun I ever bought. I love shooting it. Good accuracy low recoil and not too big. BTW I dont carry, its next to impossible to get a CCW permit in California.

I keep a loaded 12 gauge under my bed. I figure if its dark and some a-hole is coming to get me and/or my stuff, it will be easier to hit and kill with a shotgun than a .22 pistol when I'm half asleep.
BTW, I don't have kids so this isn't a worry, and I know who my friends are so I don't worry about that, either. If I had kids, things would be a little different, methinks.

I have several handguns as my family owns an indoor firing range, but I either carry my Walther PPK .380 or my Glock 23 .40
I have a in the pants holter for both and a shoulder holster for my glock

You're not the only one. I keep my 12 gauge 18 inch barrel Mossburg under my bed. Just the intimidation factor of the sound of a round being chambered in a 12 gauge beats any handgun in that situation. Imagine you're a bad guy sneaking into a house at night, and you hear that sound in the darkness ahead...

Not trying to stir up anything here, just wondering, do you guys who have a shotty under the bed at night time lock it away when you go to work? Or does it stay under the bed for the 'bad guy' to find when he robs your house during the day (when 80% of burglaries occur)?

Its a valid point to consider. In my neighborhood, there are many retirees. Across the street and the house right next to me on the North are just two of many more, and they are home all day. But, I also have a large dog that is not aggressive or violent, but he does bark when someone comes up to the house. So any burglar would have to deal with him. At first glance, I think they would turn around.
The shotty I keep under my bed is a Benelli Nova. My more expensive guns are locked up.
On another note, though, gun safes can be broken into as well. The burglar might have a hard time seeing my gun, but a big ass gun safe says "break into me now." My stepdad's gunsafe got broken into once and they stole all his most valuable guns, including an old Weatherby worth a few grand minumum.
The bottom line is that if someone robs your house and wants your guns, the safe is just a barrier that can be broken.

For me, i have a small safe (that you can carry) more to prevent my kid (or family friends/kids) from getting to my guns/ammo. That is more important to me than fearing robbers getting my guns. As stated above, once i have my CHL, one of my two guns will be with me all the time.

You seem to be trying to make your point the hard way. Have you been threatened recently?

I installed a wooden ledge in the bed frame underneath where I keep the shotgun. Even if you crawled under the bed, which you would have to be pretty thin to do, you wouldn't see the gun. The ledge looks like part of the frame. The few rare times we have had visitors with children I have removed and unloaded it.

Plus I have two large dogs, both bark when people approach the house. One dog is not aggressive, but not really friendly to strangers either.

I keep my other guns and small valuables hidden in places that are not obvious and not easy to get to.

No...but, if i did not carry it, then what was the purpose of me wasting 10 hours of my life to get the license?? I have to put it to good use!

I believe in carrying a pistol because of the rare chance that i am confronted with a "mall shooting" or "lethal threat" on the streets. I took the course to protect my family.

To which I reply, no I did not buy a handgun to shoot anyone, in fact I hope to never have to. I have it for personal protection, and it is more or less a hobby. Besides it is your right to have them.

I got news for ya. The neighborhoods with rich folks get robbed the most. Why would a robber waste his time in the 'hood stealing junk when rich people have all the nice stuff. My aunt and uncle were kind of on the racist side, like you, so they built a house in a wealthy area with no "people of color," as they put it. Well, it wasn't long before the security system was tripped. It typically happened every two years or so. If you live among rich folk, you are more justified to conceal and carry than if you live in the hood.

Me, being from Canada cannot even imagine living in a place where any schmuck walking the street could be packing a loaded handgun. I havent even seen a handgun outside of the one gun range that I've been to.

Anyways, I know this is a thread about "what concealed handgun you carry" so Im not going to get into the whole gun debate

So just to make it a legit post, sometimes I carry a loaded "water gun" concealed in the back of my 4runner, makes it easy to give the dog water when I walk her.

When Im playing video games I like to go with the Desert Eagle, if at all possible.
