Conceal Handgun...What do you carry?

OK OK you must be pretty big to conceal that canon.

I've got a dozen or so handguns. My 686 looks just like yours and is my favorite by far. I can shoot it very accurately and the trigger pull is beautiful. Mine's a 6 shot, built in the early 90's I think.

There was a recall on them to fix either the mainspring or the firing pin or both - I forget. Local gunsmith did it and billed S&W, long time ago...

I own several .357 and .44 Magnums and while a full-frame revolver usually is too big for conceealed carry, I have a 5 shot Ruger SP101 .357 with 3" barrel that conceals very nicely in a custom Milt Sparks IWB holster. I keep it loaded with 125 gr JHPs - the "King of the Street" load.
 
the 686 is just stainless, and yes, it is big, but I mainly carry it during hunting season, so concealing is a piece of cake. I'm anxious to get to the range to do some shooting...I'm also looking for some different grips, maybe a traditional S&W checkered wooden style.

I was stationed in North Carolina in the Marines and if you wanted to buy something there, all they wanted was a driver's license showing state residency. Maybe it's more of a process if you're not a resident though

I have enjoyed it a lot, not one single FTF or FTE so far! My Mom has a KelTec 32 that has been flawless as well. The LCP is great for concealing when wearing shorts or just about anything, and is great BUG. I planning to build some sort of concealed carry rig for it to go in the T4R. The CT laser works seamlessly.

Pink grips were certainly her choice, not mine!

Thanks. I have owned 380's in the past and (aside from being a marginal stopper), had reliability/jam issues with them. Nothing terrible, but even 1 or 2 /100 rnds is way too much do depend my life on. A couple guys at work bought the Ruger but I don't think they have put many rounds through them as of yet to make a conclusive determination of reliability.

I do own and have had great luck with Rugers (although mostly revolvers).

Looks like a good rig for inside the pants and probably even light enough while biking. The CT laser breaks up the outline a bit and I have seen pocket holsters that do even a better job with this relatively thin semi-auto.

Sounds like one of these may be in my future!

Oh how nice it is not to be stuck with CA firearm laws. I wanted that XDm and had to settle with the XD40. Now just have to land some primers

I've been hearing great things about the Sig P239...I'm very interested in picking one up! Would you say its "compact"?

I have well over 1200 rounds by now...not a single malfunction. Yeah, it is a compact, maybe a bit on the big side. I am not a big person and i carry it almost everyday, the whole day without issue. I use IWB holster.

One thing...there is rumor that the newer guns out of Sig (including P239) are not as reliable as the older guns. My brother bought a P239 late last year after the Sig & Sauer merger. His gun jammed left and right! :( So, it may have been a fluke, but i hear that quality control went down with the merger. This may have been fixed, but i would be careful.

Carry a Glock 23 in the vehicle and a Sig P232 on me. Purchased the P232 last spring and because of the price and availability of .380 rounds I've only been able to put about 500 rounds through it but have yet to have a miss fire or jam. Local gun shop here in Austin has just started to get .380 back in stock on a regular basis. So I hope to run 100 or so rounds through it this week. I did put a set of Hogues on it right away.

I carry my Colt Commander .45 or my Beretta Jet-Fire .25

Some folks may scoff at the .25 as a self-defense, but it would only be used in a last second, do or die type situation, in which it's better something than nothing. Unfortunately the .45 just is too much to carry at all times.

Here's me at the range shooting my AR with my Colt on my hip.

Just traded in my Beretta 950 BS on a Ruger LCR 38 Snubby. The little .25 could almost be carried 24/7 and really brought a whole new meaning to "better than nothing" (the gun you don't carry isn't going to help you, right?).

However, the LCR is still pretty light and easy to hide, even for a skinny guy like me. It's a heck of a gun.
