concerns on aftermarket seat heater?

Hello everyone! I am new here and also new to the 4Runner. My wife and I purchased a 2011 4Runner on this past Monday. I have been looking around on here since then for any information that may be helpful. I have noticed that some people on here have added heated seats to their vehicles and reccomend the Rostra kits. I like the fact that the kits have factory looking switches with them but have a few concerns. Are these seat kits safe to install with the airbag in the seats? I would hate to take apart the seats and mess something up. Thanks for any info available!

Seat heaters are completely safe to install with the seat airbags. When I installed my heaters you don't even mess with the bags except for unplugging them when you remove the seats. The airbags are located in the side of the seat back and you install the heater in the center of the back, so you don't get the heater anywhere near the bag. Get the manual from Nashman and follow it to the "T" and you will be fine.

I was in the same boat as you when I first started it, but the airbags never became a worry while I was actually doing it. As long as you unplug the battery neg cable and wait at least 90 sec before you unplug the airbags you will be fine. The seat backs were the easiest part of the install. I didn't take the covers all the way off I just unhooked the bottom and back and then pre-cut the heater and slid it under the cover and taped it down the best I could. I have been using mine for almost a month now and they work great. I definetly recommend getting the manual from Nashman69g, it walks you through the entire process of taking the seats apart step by step. Good luck, and if you need any more help let me know.

Hey Guys, I know its an old thread but.. I'm installing a set of waterproof heaters found on amazon from warm seats this weekend. Doing it with cloth seats too.

What has your longer term satisfaction been with your heaters and the method of install? Any changes or things to consider looking back?

I wouldn't mind replacing the heated seats in my 2010 SR5. They're absolute garbage compared to my G35. Hot gets way too hot and low doesn't feel like their even on, keeping the dial in the middle seems decent but it turns off and on! All of that and it's only the seat and not the back Is the process quite involved to install aftermarket kits and if not, what kits seems the best out there?

Mine heats the back? Is that just an SR5 thing? Or do I just have a really hot back?
