Considering OME 880/906

So help me out here guys. I currently have the 3" ToyTech/Bilstein lift on my truck and I'm really not a huge fan. I'd honestly prefer having a truck that does great both on and offroad, and currently, I just don't like the ride that the Toytec 620lbs springs provide, and on top of that, without a panhard drop bracket, the bump steer sucks!

Anyway, I do enjoy offroading when I have the chance/time, just not enough to justify 3". The only problem is that I have a BanditRunner bumper with a winch, so I'm worried that the 880s will have a result of too much front rake.

I should be able to re-use the Bilstein D558-5100 on a lower perch setting, correct?

Any more thoughts? I'm not sold on the OME setup, just looking for something that will benefit me more in the long run.
I just really miss how nimble my 2nd gen felt :)

I did it

I got the 5100s and the 880 906 combo.

I'm very happy with the stance and the result.

That said, if I had to do it over, I'd do the 881 and 890 combo.

You do get a little forward rake with the 880 and 906, and in fact, wheeler's offroad recommends the 906 with the 881, but I was afraid of getting a little rear rake, which I definitely don't want. With your winch, you might do the 881.

I tow more than I offroad, and the stiffness of the 906s is juuust right with a little weight, and towing a trailer, or even hauling heavy stuff in the rear, the car sits level, so I think the forward rake is just right. I'll post pictures here shortly.

Here it is on a slight grade with around 100lbs in the back. Smack in the middle of a 20 hour trek through Florida scavenging for gas during the hurricane. This is where this car proved to me that it was worth its weight in gold. Family and dog - 20 hours non stop in the heat and traffic. No problem. You can see a slight forward rake, and unloaded it's definitely there, but it's only about an inch.

The '00 will never be as nimble as a 2nd gen, you should sell it to me.

:worthless

So I don't get it. I want 1" of lift and a stiffer rear end so it doesn't sag so much with my camping gear in the back. Is that a 906? If it sags to level when loaded that is fine. I don't want 3" which some of these seem to give. And the front is fine, I am happy leaving it stock suspension but if I should replace that to match the rear I'll do that. Is that 880? I read that 880 is weak.

What size tires are those? I think I have the same ones! Looks great man! Thanks for the picz!

What I've read is that the 906 is like the '99 talls without later-in-life sagging and much less load sagging overall.

I just want to not have an SUV that looks like a mommy-mobile. Thats a Highlander.

Nope. Not quite. The 906 is taller than the 99 tall springs by about an inch. Well, on the bench they are about the same height but the 906 will be an inch taller once installed. And the 906 is a stiffer heavier spring and better for carrying a load as you mentioned.

I really like my bilstein 6112 although they are a MFer to assemble because most spring compressor cant fit on it safely.

I want to get an ARB bumper and had my gf who is about 115 lbs stand on the stock bumper and it only goes down 1/8 inch so I think it would be fine.

I have 906 with a 10mm spacer in the rear.

265/75/16 - Falken Wildpeak. I quite like them.

The 906s are good for the lift you need in the rear, if you have a winch, I'd at least consider the 881s in the front. I think you'll get close to level with that setup.

The 906 are fairly stiff, but with any kind of significant load in the back, say 100 lbs or more, they soften up quite nicely. I've towed up to 12 ft of trailer and the springs hold the car level.

906 is about an inch and a half over what I had on stock '98 springs with 100k miles or so, so it's probably an inch over brand new ones. If you're not carrying any extra weight in the front, I like the 880s with the 906 combo, but I'm not sure what you mean by weak. I don't feel a lot of bounce or wallowing in the spring.

The 906 is stiffer than the 881, somewhere around here there's a stiffness chart, but the 906 is one of the stiffest springs I saw for OME, if not the stiffest. With a little weight in the back it softens up.

Gotcha. That sounds pretty much like what I'd want. Thanks for the explanation.

RE: tires. Yup. I have those. Any trouble getting them balanced? I'm tracking down a vibration that comes and goes with a balance. Discount was having trouble with one of my rear tires.

I usually carry around 100lbs of tools/supplies just in case I'm in a situation that warrants them. the 906s really do sound perfect.

I just really, really hate how stiff the front is. My 2nd gen's torsion bar setup felt exactly the same:mad:

I didn’t have any balance problem at first but I get a little wiggle at about 60 mph after about 10k Miles. It’s not enough to bother me for now. I’m getting the FN five stars soon so I’ll pribably get it rebalanced then. Overall I think the tires are a bargain. At half the price of the competitors a slight wiggle doesn’t bother me. Especially since I see balance threads about the K02s as well.

Sounds like my tires. Not a huge problem--especially since when I first got the truck, it drove like garbage.

The FN Five Stars look legit on the truck--reminds me of the FJZ80 wheels.
