Considering selling my Tacoma for another 4runner

Hey guys I found a 99 black highlander 5 speed with an e locker locally with 130k miles that a guy is open to selling. It's got a 3" Toytec lift, 285 km2s, and bronze Koenig off road wheels. The guy said he is looking to get $9000 but to me I think it's too high. I feel like $7000 would be a better price. I am considering selling my 02 double cab Tacoma 4x4 for it. What do you guys think?

Do it. Unless you need the bed for any reason then you'll be happy with the 4runner. The price is a bit high, but in your market and the options/add ons it isn't too far off. You could get a good amount for the DC and still have cash left on the side for more mods or whatever else you'd want to do it. Plus it would be nice to have you back on the boards.

Nice find. Rare options in my neck of the woods. This would definitely go for $9,000 or possibly more here in SoCal.

I'd do it. That's the same dilemma that I'm in (I have the same truck as you), but if I came across that configuration 4runner I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Like SCRunner12 said, unless you absolutely need the bed, which I'm realizing I don't, then it's an easy transition.

Ya I have only used the bed a couple times in my truck but now I am wishing I had bought an ext cab cause I would actually be able to have a sleeping platform but I could also do this with a 4runner. Ya I could definitely sell the DC and have a couple grand left over. The only thing left to do to the 4runner would be a nice front bumper. I am for sure going to check it out this weekend.

I've been debating this myself...my wife technically owns the 4Runner in the house, and I've been in total jealousy since it showed up.

I have a 2003 DoubleCab PreRunner that I'm considering selling or trading off.

So far it seems like buying the 4runner has a lot more positives than negatives. I just hope it's as nice in person as it is in the pictures.

I'm not sure what Toyota prices are where you're at but that could probably catch 10k firm here in Portland area. I think 7k would be a little too much of a lowball. ask about Timing belt water pump, if no receipts then i'd say 7k. if that was done then i'd start at 7.5k. That really is ever option you could ask for in a 4runner which i'm sure you know. Really hope you get that gem!

I get what you are saying. The timing belt and water pump were done 5k miles ago. I definitely don't want to offend him with a low offer. Ya I am very excited to go check it out. Hopefully it all works out cause I have always wanted a manual 3rd generation!

I would pay 9 for that. People in my area ask 8-9 for 5speeds all day. No e locker, basis options and high miles. I paid 7 for mine with 171k. 5 speed no e locker.

I sold my '99 black Highlander 5 speed last year. No eLocker, 185K on it, Tundra TRDs/5100's, 890's with 285/75/16 Treadwrights on it for $8,500. If that truck is clean $9,000 isn't a bad price.

Bumping this thread because I am looking for a 3rd gen again and I called the guy that owned the 99 highlander. So I went checked it out and it needs some tlc. The interior needs a good cleaning and it also needs a clutch soon. He said he wants 8k obo. It now has 137k miles and I can tell it's been sitting for a little bit because the tags are expired from the beginning of this year. What do you guys think I should offer him?

If you really want to talk him down I would offer him 7k but if the frame has no rust a Black 5speed with the lift and tires is a good deal for 7k Especially with those low miles. Plus you can't beat cup holders!

It took me a while to find my Black 5spd and it was in much worse shape and stock. (Was metal to metal brakes, leaky valve covers, tires worn to belts and clutch only lasted me 1 year but the frame was spotless leather was in decent shape and I do all the maintenance myself so I jumped on it.) I only paid 3.5k for mine but there's a very small market here in FL for a 4x4 and most looking are misguided souls looking for a "Jeep to go Muddin' out here in the swamp" or the guys who hunt and only use pickups because of the dog cages.

Wow you get a really good deal on yours. It does have leaky valve covers but I majority of the ones I look at have them also. I do think 7k would be a good price for the 4runner it does have the toytec lift on it and wheels with Km2s.
