Console Vault -- Toyota 4Runner 2010 - 2016

First thing I did after I got my 4R was drop in a Console Vault. You can still access the plug. Only thing you really lose is the useless coin holder.

Was very happy to note that I heard no rattling of either the box itself nor its contents when driving up and down rutted gravel roads yesterday. Bodes well.
 
So I just bought a Console Vault on eBay and it fits great, but I'm confused about the bolts. Are they supposed to be longer than the stock ones? I've attached a pic, and the bolts on the left are the stock ones, and the bolts on the right are the ones the seller sent me. These are not the correct ones, right? They should be longer?

The ones that came with my Lock'er Down unit were longer. Since they are virtually identical units I'd think the Console Vault would be longer as well but I'd call them and check.

The socket can only be accessed from within the safe. No pass through to access from outside the safe or console.

just wondering why not used the glove compartment since it has a key that you can lock as well?? Any advantage for the safe??:heh:

The glove box will take all of 30 seconds to pry open.

If you are store something valuable or a fire arm, having it in a truly locked and secure place is important.

Personally I would never leave a firearm or valuable in the glove box. Its the first place someone will look.

That's what I was thinking. What's even more confusing is the guy who I bought it from said he used the shorter bolts on his, which makes no sense since the holes they screw into are already sunken and the bottom of the safe sits even higher.

You may want to Contact the seller, and follow up to see what his take on the bolts are.. If I remember correctly, mine were longer - don't quote me on that.


When I installed, the bolts engaged instantly @ near first turn of socket. I would keep the Vault, since it would be more of a hassle to return than just get longer bolts.

He said he has a '14 Limited, but as far as I know, the consoles are the same so I don't understand how they could've worked. I did contact Console Vault directly and they're sending me some new bolts, so we'll see if those are the right ones.
 
I still have no idea how the seller was able to use the bolts on the right, but I called Console Vault and there were awesome enough to send me the ones on the left for free. So now we're in business!

Old thread bump

As I am awaiting delivery of my 5th gen I wanted to ask update from actual purchasers of above units. It seems the prices between console vault and locker down are comparable, I didn't know if anyone has compared both personally side by side in regards to the construction and security of them?

Lockerdown-289 with 4 number combo
Console Safe 2010-18 Toyota 4Runner


Consolve vault-269 with 3 number combo
Toyota 4 Runner 2010 - 2018

I can't attest to the factual basis, but the owner of Lock'er Down (which I subsequently purchased) stated that they used a heavier gauge steel than Console Vault.

I can only relay what I was told.

That said, I've been very happy with the Lock'er Down. It's worked great for my vehicle. Couldn't be easier to set up and install.
 
according to both of their sites, they both use 12 gauge. I have a console vault and love it. I had an issue with the lock and they sent me another no questions asked, not even an order number

Is my research of previous post correct that the Console vault you have access to the power port and with the Lock'er Down you do not?
