Honestly, very big of you to step into the other drivers' shoes, see for yourself, and accept the results. Most people are happy enough to say that "everyone else does it and says it's fine, so I'm fine too". Glad to see someone prove me wrong.

I'm all for enhancing the lighting, but not at the expense of someone else's vision. Technically, a "retrofit" (swapping HID projectors/bulbs/ballasts into another headlight) is still illegal. But it's only illegal in the sense that it is not DOT approved in the new headlight unit rather than unsafely creating excess glare and bothering other drivers.

So what's the new setup going to look like? Mini H1 7.0?

Haha. For now it's going to look exactly like putting the OEM bulbs back in and sealing the dust cover holes I created with duct tape on both sides. Toyota dealer wants $22 apiece for new covers, sheesh, rub salt in my wounds.

Thanks for the kind words man. I'm gonna try some Osram Nightbreakers and see if I can't get at least a little better yet more controlled light from the LBs.

EDIT: anyone wanna buy a very slightly used XD Philips 4300k kit? Haha.

Probably not so many "drivers/builders" think like OP (have it proved on my daily commute). Every day I see so many cars and trucks with stock headlights "upgraded" by 5000+K bulbs (either LED or HID). The worst are guys in very old trucks and cars that have headlights without any cut-off.

I think this way: if my headlights are blinding the guy coming at me, he can't even see where he is going and can easy jump to my lane without knowing it. I'm big fan of LED technology, but I drive all my cars with good quality (OSRAM or Philips) halogen bulbs in headlights.

BTW I have 2012 T4R (no projectors) so I would have to have a big scar on my brain to put HID or LED in these. Unless someone designs a dedicated LED or HID headlight (I mean the whole headlight, not just a bulb) I'm stuck with Mr. Edison's technology.

Anyone have experience with Sylvania ZEVO LED replacements???

I'm contemplating using their 1157R (R=Red) for the jury rig rear fog.

They are readily available in my area. Three different named auto parts stores carry only them and they are available at WalMart as well. Can't find any JDMs except on line.

Unfortunately no manufacture has "stepped up" to design replacement projector headlight assemblies to this point , but there is a solution..........

For 2010-13 models this is the only CORRECT WAY to add HID's, IMO [MENTION=51186]philsey[/MENTION] did it right!

Forget the "Super Bright" Sylvanias. Saw a pair on sale at a good price so I said what the heck, give'em a try. Maybe at best half as bright as the incandescent.

Seems the best economical solution might be a "rewired" 4 pin trailer light extension cord. I had to get a 4 pin extension to get power to the short lead on the Bully CR-007A.

If an extension were wired so that when plugged into the trailer connector and Bully, the Bully bulb brake light function were on when the tail lights are on, that would give the desired brightness. And the brake light wire(s) on the extension not powered when braking. Then just use the brightest red LED 1157 I can find to reduce current/heat from the incandescent brake light. LED might be necessary with the brake light on continuously with tail lights.

This would also allow the "cheap" Bully to be periodically replaced when needed with no further mods.

So any ideas on the rewire?? And I'll check out the custom site.

Headlights – High Beams

- Installing LED bulbs into the ‘14+ T4Rs is complicated by the fact that they also serve as the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). In order for and LED bulb to function correctly in the HB spot (i.e. without flickering), you’d need a relay (like the CanBUS sold by XenonDepot)…and unfortunately this relay would make the DRLs have the same intensity as the high beams because these LEDs do not dim. Alternately, you can disable the DRLs and run LEDs in your HB spot.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but the above quote is why replacing the OEM combo HB / DRLs with LED bulbs on '14 and up won't really work as a "plug n play" mod. In order to run LED DRLs, you have to install different DRLs (like, in a different spot, which would require running / splicing new wiring). There are a couple of different options for this listed in the second post of this thread.

Thank you for the help. I'm probably not explaining it correctly that link shows the amber outside blinker. I want to change that bulb on the inside near the grill that's the DRL bulb. It goes off when you turn the headlights on. And it's Kind of dim. I wanted to be like an LED bulb with that bluish tint .

I think maybe you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. That dim bulb you're talking about near the grille is indeed the DRL, but it's also the high beam- turn your high beams on and go look outside the truck and you'll see what I mean. The DRLs and High Beams are the same bulb / spot on the '14 and newer T4Rs, the truck just runs the 9005 bulb at a lower current to produce dimmer DRL light. Replacing this bulb with an LED is complicated by this fact for the reasons I noted in the quote earlier.

If all you care about is the whiter light, you could buy a blue tinted halogen bulb such as the Philips CrystalVision that would allow you to get the whiter light and preserve the functionality of the DRL / High Beams.

Don't you hate it. Toyota screwed the front lighting in 5th gen T4R by trying to be "smart ass" and use computer (ECU) to control last century technology (Edison bulbs). Early models (pre 2014) have blinkers as DRL, later have high beam as DRL. What's wrong with just adding a dedicated bulb for DRL, Toyota?

This is the bulb I was referring to. It will give you a whiter light from the DRLs and High Beams. Since all you are doing is replacing the bulb, it will work for both while an LED will not.
