I went for the Rocky Road step sliders. I have to say, I'm not super impressed.
I ordered on June 1, and paid upfront via PayPal. I didn't hear anything more until 7/29 I received a shipping notification. Of course, we were out of town for the week, on vacation. Anyway, it worked out that they were delivered on the second attempt by Fed-Ex. When I opened the box, it contained two step sliders, a ton of packing material, and nothing else. I called immediately, and was told that they would ship out the mounting hardware that day.
Later, when I was looking them over, I noticed the driver's side slider had a big gouge right on the front, obviously had been dropped at some point. Rather than go through a big hassle trying to return/exchange I just decided to get some spray paint at the hardware store, paint over the gouge and mount them since it wouldn't be noticeable once it was on the truck.
Hardware arrived today so I decided to mount them on the truck. Starting with the driver's side, I was only able to get three out of the six holes to line up with the holes in the frame. Both the front mounting holes and the lower rear mounting hole. The middle holes were both so far off that I wound up drilling a new hole in the frame and using a self tapping bolt they supplied for similar issues. I could not for the life of me to get the bolt started in the upper rear mounting hole.
The passenger side went quite a bit smoother with both the upper and lower holes lining up in the front and rear, but the upper hole on the middle mount I accidentally cross threaded and the bolt only went in about halfway the lower hole didn't line up very well and it doesn't have the threaded insert which is why they include the self tapping bolts, but I didn't want to drill another hole.
I primarily wanted these sliders to function as steps and not necessarily as sliders, so I am not too concerned about not having all the bolts in, but I wish I could get the upper rear bolt in on the driver side. I may have to try to slot the mounting hole in the slider a bit, but it will be a pain in the ass.
Edit- I picked up a new Dremel and a 90* attachment and was able to enlarge the hole without removing the slider. So now I have the bolts in both the upper and lower holes on the rear mount, which makes me feel quite a bit better about them. It looks like the rear mounting plate is bent or not square or something but I was able to get the bolt started and snugged down. I shot the bare metal with a little Krylon rust resistant paint before I put the bolt in.
They do look nice though....
