I took that review with a grain of salt. I did a lot of research before getting my previous ride - an '06 Highlander V6 AWD, and my current ride - an '09 RAV4 I4 4WD.

I have to agree with most of what they said. I really wanted to buy a 2010 but after test driving 2 of them I could not see the value at all. I am sticking with my 03 with only 46k miles. At least my 03 SR5 had auto temp, full time 4x4 and V8. Give me these features for 35k and I will be back. Other wise I am moving on.

Considering I got those features plus, Bluetooth, NAV, USB, 110V plugs, push button start, keyless entry and probably a few others for $39K in 2010 vs. 2003. I don't see your point.
This review was ridiculous, in the least. I personally looked at everything out there, everything. Nothing came close in quality inside and out. The only other like vehicle that was nicer inside was the Rover's and they come with their own bag of long-term issues. Even the GM vehicles, Yukon, had a comparative cheap interior full of bad plastic and poor fitting parts. And they want $60K for those things, the seats are bigger though!!
So to review the "review", the body rolls in corners (SR5), the interior is not up to her standards (compared to what I don't know) and the channel layout for the stereo doesn't line up well. Well, that says it all. Who needs a great off-road vehicle with great amenities and a well proven track record of incredible reliability when you can buy a Highlander instead. Just shows they're reviewing a vehicle based on what they want not for the intended market demographic and what they want.
To see what happens when a critic is given a vehicle they would never buy to review, this is what you get. Look at Edmonds, the last generation got a 7.6 but user reviews give it a 9. The 2005 4Runner got a 8.6 while the users give it a 9.2. Both cases have a decent to mediocre review with outstanding user reviews after long-term use.
Oh well, who cares.... I love the damn thing.

strange, i would have wagered that Ms. Stockburger would be quite fond of the 4runner... it's perfect for hauling gear to a softball game... or just loading up with dodge-balls for gym class...

Couldn't agree more with this statement and that there is nothing out there that comes close to the 4Runner for around $40k.

I did the same thing, and completely agree. There is nothing else out there for even $10k more with the space, quality, driveability (on/off road), styling, and fit/finish.
Throw in the fact that it's a Toyota so I won't have to sell it as soon as the warranty's up - like the piece of s**t Touareg we recently dumped - and I fail to see how they can't strongly recommend the 2010 4Runner.
I have to tell you, I had a lot of doubts about the 4runner before I purchsed the 2010. I questioned the bulky looking buttons, the ride, etc. I used to go to the dealer and just sit in one to see if I could get used to it. I can say that I have mine for about 2 weeks and I totally love the car. I actually enjoy driving to work in the morning or running out for a quick grocery run. I LOVE the interior and the ride is comfortable for what the truck is supposed to do. It's not going to drive like a luxury crossover but that's not what I was looking for. CR is a great magazine, but they're not as objective as they make themselves out to be. I love the distinctive look...The seats feel great to me. Granted i have the Limited with leather and I can't comment on the SR5.

SR5 leather is quite fantastic as well. I really, really love my Runner.
I noticed that CR complained about the numb steering. I have "sharp" steering in my GTI and MINI, and it just wears on you after a while. I drove the 4Runner up to my parents' (4 hrs away) 2 weekends ago. The drive was simply effortless compared to my other 2 cars. You call it numb steering. I call it light and easy. It isn't supposed to be a sports car.

I think the biggest problem is that the definition of an SUV has changed over the years. Back in the late '80s SUVs were really just trucks without a bed. They were basic, cost effective and did what they were supposed to do. Then Yuppies and Soccer Mom's decided to start buying SUVs and the market began shifting to more and more care like vehicles with prices increasing and original functionality decreasing. I bought a 4Runner because I value the towing and off-road capability, because I actually use it, so for me, when I read that report, the part that has the most impact on me is
At least the 4.0-liter, 270-hp V6 engine pulls strongly and the truck did very well in our off-road evaluations.
If those features weren't paramount to me, I would have had a lot of choices in an "SUV", but because I valued them, my research kept bringing me full circle back to the 4Runner.

I've had mine for six months now - 6,500 miles and I still love it! That says a lot because I always get bored with my cars after the first month of ownership. It's the best vehicle I've ever owned (and I've owned them all - well not literally, but most big name vehicles), and hope they make the 4R forever because I will always own one until the day I die.

Like any review/critique this is an opinion. Most of the things she complained about in the video are things I love about my 4Runner. I like the towing, the shape, the size (I don't need something that seats 7 people with no cargo room), the gas mileage, the off road handling. If I hadn't wanted/needed those things there were other vehicles I could have gotten. I hated driving the Highlander, it couldn't make up its mind on its handling. Do I drive like a car or drive like a truck? Pick one and go with it!
Too much vanilla out there and not enough special flavors. I like my VW Jetta, as a car it's great car. I love my 4Runner, as a truck it's an awesome truck!

A typically equipped SR5 for $39k? I got my nicely equipped SR5 4x4 for $31.5k. So, yeah, when you overpay by about 25%, I can see how someone might be disappointed.
The t4r 'bobbs so much it would make her kids carsick'? This review is a joke.
But I do kind of agree, the suspension is a bit soft.

Wow, I kinda wanna review a Prius or a Honda Fit because I could find just as much crap that I don't like about them based on how I personally use my vehicle..." The vehicle is actually very low to the ground, I feel like Im falling down into it. When Im driving next to normally sized vehicles or big rigs I feel like death is imminent. The seats are very comfortable and the steering crisp, however, the suspension didn't like my gravel driveway very much and I found it hard to fit more that 3 adults in the car. Cargo space easily carries a medium size backpack or small dog with a sparkly collar the 1000 mi a tank of gas will last you as the 14hp Briggs & Stratton carries you merrily on your way. All in all, the 2010 Amoeba is a great vehicle with some minor shortcomings if you do in fact live further than 20 mi from a major urban area or you like to go anywhere "outside" for the weekend." The end.

CR has always been this way. They're a good place to start and a good place to get info on home appliances and vacuum cleaners. Whenever it comes to a product that I have in depth knowledge about they usually miss the point. Many years ago I read a review of the Corvette. They were saying that it rode rough like a rollerscate. It rode rough because it could turn on a dime. It's like saying a Cat D8 is a piece of junk because it doesn't ride like a Lexus.
