Continuous 12V power to trailer plug

Hi gang,

I'm aware of the continuous 12V mod for the plugs *in* the truck on my 4th gen, but what I really want to know is if there is any way to mod the 12V rail going to the trailer plug so that it is not switched?

I tow a dog trailer 3-4 times/week, and the fans in the trailer run off of the 12V rail to the plug, but I need them to work when the truck is powered off.

Any ideas (w/o installing a battery and isolator in the trailer)?

Check the wiring diagram, if the power is controlled by a relay you could jumper across the relay but the simplest and easiest way would probably be to run a wire back there from the battery. You shouldn't do it if the fans could run down the battery though. In that case you'd probably need a dual battery setup.

I think the best thing to do would be to install a battery on the trailer. With an isolated charge wire from tge current batt.

Ya, this is the solution I keep coming back to, unfortunately.

On my previous truck, the 12V to the plug was directly from the battery, so the trailer had continuous power.

The fact the 12V is switched on the 4Runner is quite problematic. Thankfully, we're heading into the cold months, so the trailer fans are not really needed, and will give me some time to get this sorted out.
