I tossed my Dunlaps (courtesy of Toyota) at 5K miles and replaced them with Michelin Cross terrains. Huge difference in control and vibration gone. I had to file complaints with the State Attorney General to get Toyota to replace the tires. They know it is a problem. I can't believe they are still using those Dunlups on the 2006 models!

X-REAS is a stability enhancement system that affect how the 4runner corners. It makes the vehicle turn flatter and more stable.
I've had my 4runner above 100 mph a few times (but haven't max'd out the speedometer yet).
It felt just as stable, if not more so than my previous SUV, an S10 Blazer.
Yes, it is not a car and should never be driven like one. For an SUV however, it is very stable and sure footed.
I'd suggest driving another 4runner to see if you can feel a difference. Maybe something is wrong.

Agreed, I would try finding a 4Runner of roughly the same spec (stock tires, no X-REAS, etc) to compare with yours. If it drives the same, then it's likely just a conflict of your driving habits and SUV handling traits. If there's a notable difference, then something could be goofed with your tires/wheels/suspension/steering/etc and you can start looking for problems.snap315 said:

No handling problems here with the stock equipment i have on my 04 Sport XREAS. i've pushed my truck to 110mph ( well maybe since the needle was on the right on the speedo 
) i was around that for about 10-15 seconds full throttle and took some slight turns on the highway and she handled excellent for an SUV at that speed.
I own a bike and sports car if your wondering why i pushed her that fast haha..

Being quite experienced and comfortable with high speed driving (I have participated in many track events and am an AutoCross instructor when the opportunity brings itself), I have had my '03 V8 Sport to ~105mph and have had no issues with stability.
Earlier this summer my wife and I were on our way back to Texas from Vancouver, Canada with the 4Runner completely loaded down from floor to ceiling, front to back... We were going through some mountainous areas in Oregon, climbing 6% grades and going around a lot of curves. At one point I had a Saab turbo behind me that failed to keep up with me when some of the turns got tighter and the climbs got steeper. This vehicle has completely amazed me in every aspect.
We just sold our '98 S10 Blazer this week that the 4Runner replaced. The 4Runner is much more stable than the Blazer in every aspect. You can feel that the T4R is definitely heavier, but it feels much more sure-footed in everything it does.

A year and a half later I'm a little more bent, and if there's a company that offers a shock system similar to Toyota's XREAS, I might be interested. I'd like to keep the overall ride characteristics but tone down the body roll. Are there any reasonably priced aftermarket solutions for this?
