Converting to manual locking hubs to save mpg??

Is it possible to do this and if so how much fuel will you save? I have heard that manual locking hubs can save you alot of gas because less of the drive train is going. Anybody tried it?

It is possible to do this mod and it seems logical that you would save gas mileage. Most people do this in order to install a taller lift (above 3") to prevent the CV's from grenading at highway speeds or to install a front locker. If you're not in 4 Wheel Drive then why would it help gas milage? That being said because I don't plan to take a long trip at speeds above 30 mph in 4 Wheel Drive.

With ADD, the front axles and CV's are always engaged while driving, even in 2WD, creating drag on the drivetrain and loss in mpg. A manual hub will allow you to disengage and freewheel with no drag.

just to warn you about posting this on yotatech, many people have asked this same question before, and adding manual hubs is not only a pain but your mpg increase is negligable.

and i almost forgot, manual hubs would make your front end weaker than it is with ADD... so unless your really lifted and/or put a non selectable locker in, manual hubs arent really for you.
