Convinced the wife in getting a GX470

I've been reading a lot in this forum trying to gather as much information as I can. From my understanding the the 2003 and early 04 GX470, has a different towing prepped package compared to the other years. What GX470 year will be best at towing? I plan on towing a car on an open trailer. The approximate weight of the car on the trailer will be around 5500lbs. The earlier model GX470 are way cheaper than the later models. Should I look for a GX with the trailer hitch already installed or not? If not, how hard is it to install the trailer hitch on the earlier GX470s?

My wife has an 07. I put the trailer hitch on ours. Took 45min. Very simple easy install. We have the curt. If I remember correctly from researching when we bought our, the mid 05 down have a little less power (no vvti) and don't get the
Mpgs 06+ Do. My vote is 06+

they all are the same, i dont know what you are referring to as being different? yes 05 and newer got the vvti (15 more hp), but the transmission are all basically the same. they all have transmission coolers from the factory irregardless if they have the tow hitch or not. if you ask me look for one with lowest miles, and or best service history. service history over mileage. the transmission need to be flushed every 60k mi dont listen to what the dealer says "lifetime fluid" -ask me how i know. anyhow if your gonna tow id suggest you invest in a bigger transmission cooler.

I am considering a GX for sometimes towing my car on an open trailer. Is the side-hinged rear gate difficult to access with the trailer on the hitch?
