Coolant/hose/radiator leak

So a few months ago I noticed a little white dried liquid trailing from one end of my radiator hose. No big deal, the hose was kinda old and dry anyway, replaced it, bought new clamps, clamped it down tight and the problem didn't come back....until a couple days ago. This time it looks like its coming out the other side too. My engine is always cool, plenty of coolant in the reservoir and radiator. I don't think its a big deal, it seems like its only a little bit coming out. It's just kinda annoying and it's something that's not normal, so I would like your guys' opinion. It seems like its a pressure issue? Idk...you guys figure it out please...:snacker:

Also does anyone know why my coolant is purple/bluish?... is that just an aftermarket coolant? Isn't toyota coolant supposed to be red?

When it dries out, it should be pink. You gotta open the cap and see if it is red for sure. But really, do your 4R a favor and replace the hoses before they blow.

I know it should be red, but when I open the cap to the radiator and the reservoir the coolant is a purple/bluish color. Like I said, I just changed that hose a few months ago.

move the clamp forward a bit and tighten it down again.

It's funny you posted this, mine does the same. The leak is so slow it's not even worth a second thought. Never had to top it up either. I always thought it was the shitty OEM clamps on mine, I see you've got the screw claps and still have the problem. Is it an OEM hose? Maybe you should start there.

IF you use OEM, this will never happen. OEM hose is about $12-15 a piece I think.
Use two clamps to solve your problem.

What is the pressure indicated in your radiator cap? it got to be 0.9 and not the 1.1 (is it PSI?)

It could be a hairline crack in the inlet pipe (part that the hose fits over) and only leaks when hot. I have had one on my Bronco that runs off the water pump. If you see a crack, buy another used pipe or take some Permatex water pump gasket maker to it.

+1 on using an OEM hose and clamp.

I had a similar leak when my bypass hose was clogged with small piece of rubber from the radiator cap. I replaced the cap and cleared the bypass hose and the leak stopped. The bypass hose goes from the top of the radiator to the overflow tank.

It was a pressure issue because the coolant couldn't vent correctly.

Wish I could help, I had the same leak. I replaced the hose with one from the dealership a few months ago and it stopped.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, it's not a hose from the dealership, just a hose from a random auto parts store. I'll just clean it up, see if it comes back then replace it with a better hose.
Does anyone have an answer for the purple coolant? I'm planning on doing a flush and putting in normal red Toyota coolant, but it just bugs me not knowing what coolant is in my car. All Toyota's come out of the factory using the red coolant right?

pull the hose and clean the sealing surface. I bet its just not sealing right from that carbonate like buildup.

I posted earlier about this when this thread was first started that I had this problem. I replaced with OME hose and was fixed. Well just a few days ago I started to have this leak again. When I first put the new hose on I went with screw type clamps as well. I checked my bypass hose this morning it is clear. I also tightened down the clamps more and cleaned it up so I can check later.

Any other ideas why its leaking, very little amount from both sides. The engine was still very cold this morning when I noticed it. I drove 1/4 mile to the gas station, not leaking. Drove the 1/4 back home, leaking.

Very confused on this one.

Mine does the same.
I'm thinking about getting a new OEM radiator,all new hoses, and a TStat...

Wish I could wait for 40K more miles when I have to do the timing belt and water pump, but I'd rather not get a milkshake...

If its still leaking tonight then I will go to the radiator cap next.
