Coolant in oil but no oil in coolant ?

I bet the male thread adapter is available, the male fitting on our blocks for the stock filter is not cast into the block but threaded in.
well don't know for sure on this engine, but is on most things ive worked on

was it sleepydad that wrote up something about this months back ?

I did a search and couldn't find anything on an adapter for this to convert the cooler into a secondary filter but it would be good info to have if someone has better search skills on this forum.

Yes, it does. All US delivered 5VZ's have an oil cooler in that location. If it doesn't, you don't have the OEM setup on there.

I'd like to hear more about the back cooler and what the cold wrench lubricant is. Is this an engine oil cooler separate from the one on the drivers side that we are talking about in this thread?

On my 01 I don't have the engine oil cooler but I do run an external Hayden trans cooler with inline Magnafine filter. I think I'll do the same thing with the 98 simply to avoid the dreaded strawberry milkshake that trashes the transmission. Overheating the trans isn't an issue for the type of duty both these rigs see under my ownership so I don't put the trans cooler inline with the radiator.

You're right; it does. I just looked. I didn't think it did because the shop owner that swapped the long block was asking about the second oil filter hole on the new engine but he must have realized it later when doing the swap then didn't tell me. I did the heads/head gaskets but didn't notice it at the time. Must have been concentrating on other things.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I just did a flush/refill of my coolant today and noticed after I was done that I seem to be leaking quite a bit of oil from the oil cooler... Do I have to drain my coolant again before I replace the seals? I imagine I'll have to drain the oil too. Bummer.

Yep drain coolant. Some oil will come out removing the cooler but it shouldn’t hurt anything.

Hey everyone - replaced my oil cooler seals today. When I took the 24mm bolt off the cooler, about 1/4 pint of milky oil came out. However, when I drained the coolant before I started, the coolant was totally clear. Is it possible to have coolant in the oil but no oil in the coolant?

Interestingly, the PO must have used some kind of radiator stop leak because the coolant passage in the oil cooler was completely blocked with what seemed like a powdery substance. I suppose I haven’t had any oil cooling for a while now

my oil cooler just gave up and there's oil all under neath. I also have coolant in the oil but no oil in the coolant. I haven't pulled it off yet since I'm waiting on the delete plate to go in its place. Did yours end up being the cooler or was it the head gasket?

Sorry I never came back to this to post a conclusion. I know that’s a no-no on these “help me because...” threads.

I had forgotten that I had put a bottle of Ceratec in the oil after an oil change. That stuff has a creamy orange color to it which is why my oil looked a little milky. So thankfully no cause for alarm in my situation.

I had forgotten that I had put a bottle of Ceratec in the oil after an oil change. That stuff has a creamy orange color to it which is why my oil looked a little milky. So thankfully no cause for alarm in my situation.

I have used that on two vehicles. It’s good stuff.
