I have a 91 4runner 3.0 and im leaking coolant.....When i park it it never drips but when i add coolant it always seems to disapear somehow, not a lot though i can still see fluid through the caps hole....my teperature is normal never overheated on me.
I dont think its my water pump, does anyone know what else it could be???

I would do a pressure test the system and inspect all of your radiator and heater hoses under pressure. There is the possibility that you are burning the coolant though a leaky head gasket. You can sniff your overflow bottle to see if it smells like aerosol, if it does, thats a sign of a leaky head gasket.

Danm i think your right.....i think the gasket has a leak, ill do a pressure test on it but im pretty sure its the gasket........SH!T

Check your oil, do you have any water in it? Full out your dip stick and if you had anything other than oil on it, then it's an obvious sign of a head gasket. Another sign of a head gasket is white smoke coming from your exhaust due to the motor burning the coolant.

When i first start it up its puts it out blue smoke then it turns into white smoke.......also i havent seen radiator fluid actually drip from the motor, it just seems to disapear...when i shut the vehicle off i can smell radiator fluid.

If it was my headgasket would it leak into my oil to where i could it and can it be leaking a little to where i couldnt see it? i dont know if that makes sense or not???

There's all kinds of ways a HG can fail. I had an 81 Corona with a 22R with a bad HG. No leaks, no coolant in the oil, no white exhaust. The leak into a cylinder was so small you never saw it in the exhaust, yet that's where it was going.

You could do some pressure/leakdown tests on the cooling system and engine to zero in on the cause.

if i do a leak test will it leak from the HG even if its tiny like you were saying???

2gen, yes you will know if you do the test even if the leak is small. On my truck I had a very very slight HG leak. I was not losing much coolant and was not overheating at all nor was I blowing any smoke. My only symptom was a slight miss when the motor was cold. The PO of my truck did do the HG less than a month before I got it. I did the test thru the radiator with the dye and I did have exhaust gas present. I pulled the head and I was shocked to see that it really looked like he had taken 200 grit sandpaper to clean it up. So I had to redo the job. I thought the PO got the guy from the Geico commercial to do the job!

Good luck!

Anyone have a compltete tear down and put together manual???
Also if the gasket is leaking on the exhaust side, could it sound like an exhaust leak???
Thanx

It's really not that hard. Go to the auto store and get a Chilton's book. However they seem to leave some stuff out.

I found out a complete gasket set for my 4runner when doing the heads is around $200.00.......And i dont have that kind of money right know! Has anyone ever seen or used irontight or irontite?!?!? They told me to use it because of how small the hole is but wanted to get some input about it first.

Thanks_2gen4runner

Anyone?

Have you called Toyota to see if the head gasket recall has been done on your's? You might want to, i'm checking on mine tomorrow. It just started leaking.

They still do it if it hasn't already been done. I called Auburn Toyota.

So i called toyota and they said the head gaskets already been done back in 1998....but the steering link rod is still under recall.
I picked some of the stop leak stuff, it's the best stuff they got on the market..so i m giving that a try, ill keep u guys posted on how it works!

Stop leak is going to rust everything out. Unless your talking about the stop leak you add to the motor oil?

I just bought a 95 4runner with 155,000 miles on it...

I pulled the plugs and noticed 1 of them had a yellowish residue on them...I also had white smoke coming out of my exhaust on startup..which would go away after a few minutes....

im quite sure these were signs of a small head gasket leak into the rear cylinder on the passengers side { the plug in the back of the motor thats a bithc to get to } ..

I bought the $30 bottle of BARS STOP LEAK PERMANENT HEAD GASKET FIX
{ 1 STEP} ..and now there isnt any white smoke coming out of tailpipe...

for the most part, if you read peoples reviews who have used this stuff, it seems to work pretty good...ecspecially if your head gasket leak isnt too major....

some people claim that this stuff will rust out your motor, or cause your water pump to go bad or clog up your heating system, etc....but so far, I havent seen ay of those problems.
