Cooper Discoverer ATP PLT?

I need some new tires and need some decent off-road tires that are sidewall puncture resistant. I'm hoping to buy some land in west Texas soon, and there are some nasty mesquite trees and plenty of sharp rocks which can shred tires. On my Xterra I have some Falken LT E-load tires, but they are heavy and stiff.... hoping to avoid E load on my purchase for the 4Runner.

I found Discount Tire has some Cooper Discoverer ATP tires for a great price, but they only come in PLT and E. I was hoping for a C-load rated tire... and the marketing on the PLT is that it exceeds the load rating of a C-load rated tire. Not sure if anyone has any experience with these off-road.... it would save me $200 on the 4 if the PLTs are good enough.

I'm looking at 265/70s, so the Falkens are only E load. And they're exactly what I have on my X and I'm not really thrilled with them as a daily driver. Offroad they are fantastic.... had them on some wild trails in Ouray and not a chip in the tread on some pretty nasty rocks. But they lose traction in the rain and are really heavy.

Hmm, I've had the opposite in rain and snow. Granted, they are a tad heavy, but I've loved the street manners. The second link I posted are 265/70s and are D load...

Maybe because mine are Ds they aren't as stiff and handle better in the wet conditions. I have heard good things about the Coopers though, so its probably a good bet either way. I like the Falkens especially for the warranty...can't beat 50K for an LT tire!

Couldn't tell you anything about the PLT, but I have a wheeling buddy with ATPs and he loves them. They're not quite Duratracs or KM2s, but they seem to hook up ok.

But if you're on nasty trails, I'd go with something E rated myself. Slashed sidewalls and pinch flats are a PITA.

My couragia mt tires have been amazing, only complaint I have is the traction on wet pavement. They have about 5k on them and barely show any wear, the cuts from rausch creek have not gotten worse or chunked. Def recommend them
