Matte gray TRD wheels and LT load range C tires

Hi all,

Just picked up a set of the matte gray TRD wheels (the ones with the red TRD logo) in excellent shape to be installed on my 2014.

Can anyone tell me what models these were originally installed on, or if they were just dealer upgrades for any of the models? Also, has anyone identified a specific matching spray paint that is suitable for touching these up? Mostly the center caps which have some marks from an impact wrench.

I suppose I can ue my OEM TPMS from the SR5 wheels?

Also - I didn't realize these have LT load range C tires installed in the OEM size. Thought they were the P tires. General Grabber ATX, brand new. I reviewed the specs online, and there is about a 2 lb difference in weight between the LT and P tires (46.9 vs. 44.4 lb). Interestingly, a slightly lower load rating on the LT tires too (2470 vs. 2679 lb). Was surprised about this. They are not nearly as heavy as the load range E version (53 lb). Will I be disappointed in these tires for standard on-road use and some light off-road occasionally?

Light offroad use? You'll probably be just fine. Lots of people on this forum offroad on P-metrics, we have a long running thread about it. For on-road they'll be much better than heavy stiff LT E's.

These tire load ranges get so weird. My P-metric Wildpeaks have a higher load rating than LT Load Range C KO2s, which have a LOWER load rating than the all-season P-metric tires 5th gens come on.

Depends on how much air are in the tires, but its mainly because of the thicker side walls retaining heat on LT vs P. I also have LT-C load (Duratracs) and they have been great off road with the extra ply vs P load, plus they are lighter than E load.

I upgraded to those exact rims, love them but the red TRD center caps do fade so I may need to buy new center caps too.

Noticed that! Ceramic coat has brought back a little color, but I was thinking of looking for a new decal inlay and then re-coating with a matte clear.

When P metric tires are used on light truck and SUV applications, they are de-rated by, IIRC 9%. So your 2679 rated P tires are limited by the application to 2435 lbs.

I guess that’s another variable when I go comparing P metric and LT C offroad tires. Factory tires are 113 load index, things like the P metric Wildpeak are 115, and LT C KO2 is 112, but apparently the LT C KO2 isn’t subject to the 10% load penalty.

At any rate, the vehicle from the factory is good for 113 load index P’s, and 115 is an improvement over that. I am curious what the P vs LT differences are that result in that 10% reduction in this application.

For those who may come across this thread looking for touch up information for the matte gray wheels, attached are the products I used with very good results on the center caps. Being matte, blending touch ups is fairly easy. I was able to sand and dust the impact gun contact areas on the caps with the graphite color, and a few coats of the matte clear really brought back the red in the TRD logo
