Cooper ST Maxx or Goodyear Duratrac.. Purchasing b4 31st!

Well guys i cannot decide which way to go. Duratracs have a rebate of $60 or $120 if apply for the credit card. Rebates end July 31st. I like everything about the ST Maxx except that is load e. Another factor is that i drive gravel quite a bit. I am ussuming the st maxx would be better suited for gravel. Going with 265/70/17. Either will be much improved from the revo 2 i currently have. Please help

i'm sorry but i'd go with none of the above.

bfg at ko in load range c is going head to head with the good years in price

but the bfg at ko in load range e is considerably more expensive, about $50 per tire.

if you get the bfg's it will probably be the last tire you get for the next 75,000 miles. they will dry rot before they wear out.

i was in your position a few weeks ago. do i get duratracs and switch up or do i keep with bfg's and get another 75000 out of them. i keep reading reviews that people only get 30-40k out of the good years, and then read the reviews on the bfg's and everyone keeps saying they get 75-100k out of them. 1000's of reviews cant be all bullcrap.

265/70r17 = 31.6x10.4r17
255/75r17 = 32.1x10r17 <- ST MAXX are available in this size in load range C

Unless you absolutely need a badass snow tire, I don't recommend the Duratracs. They've hooked up well on everything I've had them on, from wet dirt and greasy clay to Moab slickrock and north Utah granite, and they're the best AT tire I've ever had for snowy/icy roads. But they're wearing fast, constantly out of balance, and getting very very loud. If those are your two choices, I'd choose the ST MAXX and I'd go with the skinny in load range C. Skinnies are da bomb.

Update!

I was leaning towards the st maxx but today came across a deal on cooper at3 for buy 3 get one free. Total for 4 tires is 265/70/17 is $456. Total for 4 275/70/17 is $723. 4 st maxx in 265/70/17 would cost me $1064 at this particular place. I really wanted to get a more aggressive tire but the at3 may be too good of a deal. What's everyone think?

Had a 2014 raptor in the shop yesterday. It comes standard with bfgoodrich at ko tread depth was up to first knuckle on pinky finger. These tires also come standard on the team trails fjs.

What vehicles come standard with the cooper's?

Again, these bfgoodrich will dry rot before they wear out @ 75,000 miles.

Do you own stock in BFG or something? Stop browbeating the OP with your hardon for an outdated tire and let the man make his choice. The tires he found will work fine for him and that's a great price.

I appreciate everyone's opinions. I better chime in here before things get ugly. I am not against the bfg at... It does last according to others (I've never owned a set) and it comes in 275/70/17 which is hard to find.

I've bought one set of tires in my life. That is the Bridgestone revo 2's that I have on my 4runner now. I'm not a guy that has ran 10 different sets of tires. So even after researching for the last year, it's not easy pulling the trigger. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this. I'm sure all the tires I've listed would be fine tires. But there is something to say about having actual experience with a tire vs others opinions.

The store running the buy 3 get one free was Theisens farm store. After getting pricing from them I called them back this morning to ask the rather important question of will they install the at3 on my stealth 6 wheels and they while they were hesitant they said they would. What they would not do is change my TPMS sensors over to the stealth wheels. Big negative. I may try to call other shops to see if they will honor the price and get the sensors installed.

Here are my driving habits and what I'm looking for:
-12 mile round trip to work everyday
-highway driving to my parents (200 mile round trip) or in-laws (80 mile round trip)
-most important to me, hunting and fishing!! Gravel roads, through farm fields and in the spring and fall mud and snow! Because of the distance from the main roads to get to my stands or ponds, I need a tire I can count on so that I do not have to park on the road and walk x amount of miles to get there.

So with all that being said, please continue to give your input! Debate brings answers!

i am sorry if i came off like what kevin describe it to be like. certainly was not my intention. tires are very subjective to several factors, and each person will weight one more important than others. there are going to be fans and haters of each brand.

bfg's have been around forever and have been basically unchanged. unfortunatly many consumers base how good a product is based off of how well the marketing department does their job.

OP - For the last 30,000 miles or so I've had the P rated Revo 2 on my 2WD and BFG AT on my 4WD. I would buy either again, but just put the Cooper STT on my 4WD and moved the BFG over to the 2WD.

For me it came down to STT vs. ST Maxx. The STT is my first Load Range E tire, and it's been fine so far. Don't let C vs. E eliminate the tire you want.

Sounds like with your needs the ST Maxx would be a great option. I'd rather have that over the AT3 for your kind of use.

I think the BFG AT would be an excellent tire choice for OP as well, sounds like he doesn't want to pay that much though.

Money isn't much of a concern. I've been saving for the last year for a new set. The ST maxx would be $1000+ after install. My concern for the at3 would be mud. Although it would do better than the Revos. Revos were a great on road, rain, mild off road tire but they could not handle mud. I will probably hit 60,000 miles with them.

We went to about 50K on the Revos, no mud or off road, it's my wife's vehicle. I never trusted the BFG AT in the mud either but they were fine in the rain.

Yeah we do have the same suspension! The 285 size is doing better than I thought. I had to do more fender/front bumper trimming but idk why I didn't just do this a long time ago. Waiting for previous tires to wear out I guess.

I was pretty sold on the ST Maxx as a hybrid AT/MT, and they look good enough, but really wanted an even more aggressive looking tire too. So when I was about to buy, I thought if I don't try a mud tire now I may never do it. So I said screw it and got the STT.

the 28th was the deadline for the rebate on the duratracs. not going that route.

31st was the deadline for the rebate on the at3. not going that route.

so now the deadline is new tires before the snow starts flying! i'd like to do it sooner than later but i really just want to make the right decision and be happy with my choice!

talking 285's, i feel i should at least go with a 275 now but my options are bfg at, at3, wrangler mtr, ??

i hear the 265/70/17 st maxx runs big. this could be the safe/smart play.

not a big fan of the skinny tire so 255's are out. any more ideas out there!?
