Correct grease for gate weather-strip

Due to an incident with a tall gas can and a sharp turn, I had to take the entire cargo area apart and do some cleaning. Side note, Dr. Bonner's castile soap entirely removes the smell of gasoline from any surface, I've never seen anything like it.

When I removed the gate weather-strip, I found a bunch of rust in the seam. I am going to do something about the current rust and replace the weather-strip (my dog tore one small spot), and I want to know the correct grease to use in the gasket and on the seam, it is just dielectric grease? The Gate weather-strip is part number 67881-35060. The original grease has dried up. Guessing I will use some type of rust converter product on these spots.

A search revealed similar issues without follow up and lots of complaining about rust in various areas, which I'm not here to do.

EDIT: It appears the grease part number is 08887-01206 Toyota rubber grease. I'll leave this post up as a reminder to open your tailgate and check this seal.

Consider using silicon plumbers grease paste. you can get a small can at the hardware stores for a couple $. I have used this in the past and also silicon spray in the window channels as well for smooth operation.

Yep, that’s what I use. The tube I ordered has enough grease in it to last about 100 years.

ugh, yeah I was thinking of replacing the rear hatch glass lower seal to see if I could keep out some the sand and dust. I installed a new set of speakers in the rear hatch a couple weeks ago. while I had it open, I cleaned out all the mud-i-fide desert sand and dust for the bottom seam of the hatch shell. seeing these pics, one of the weeps looks to literally drain right where the first pic rust is. going to double check to be sure.
