Time to have some fun with a "virtual" build...(read that as me picking your brains for a possible project).
Here's the starting point: 84 Toyota Pickup (I know...it's not a 4Runner, but work with me on this one...the price is right)
No motor / trans, stock everything else, interior is crap, paint is non exsistant but solid sheet metal, that's pretty much it.
My goal is to put something together and sell it, so this brings why I'm getting a consensus...it doesn't really matter what I like, it's what everyone else likes so as to sell it.
I have an extra 350 laying around, no Toyota parts, well tooled shop, and some time...ready, set, go

No 350. It needs one of those monster Supra motors with the twinturbo. Link suspension front and rear with enough room to fit 35's comfortably (no stuffing!). Lock up those diffs, upgrade the stock birfs, and scrap the bed for a flatbed.

That'd do me about right, I think. Who needs paint?

Oh boy, dream builds haha.

Chevy 4.3 (a 350 with with 2 cylinders cut off) on propane to Toy dual cases. Weld the read, detroit front with longs. 3 link front, f150 leaves out back. About 180 feet of DOM for cage and bumpers. Add some large bead locked rubber then wheel the piss out of it.

If cost was "no object", I would put a Buick V6 Turbo in it from a Gran National or T-Type. Have no idea if it would be possible, but it is a GM V-6.

But if I was a buyer, I would want a good body and interior, and an engine that is reliable, that I might modify in the future. A million opinions, so the "best" engine choice doesn't exist. Just do it right, make it reliable, simple, and quality work. As a buyer, I want more of a clean sheet of paper for my dreams. Ever watch those auctions that have great modified cars, but the seller never gets half of what he put into it?

Realistically, put a Toyota 4 or 6 in it. Don't spend all your time solving installation issues on something you wont keep. Then again, if you fall in love with the build, you may keep it.

cage. no bed. link f/r. i wouldnt go over 38" tires, cuz thats when breaking happens a lot more than it probably should. duals. arb lockers f/r. keep toy everything. id run the 3.4l, just because it has more power than the 22re and still keeps the reliability.
