Couple mildly recent pix of my 4Runner

Just whorin' some pix. Taken before everything turned brown for the winter after some detailing. Nearly two years now and we are quite attached to the ol girl. The 4.0 is very strong. The leather seats are uber-comfy. It rides amazing and swallows up the largest of bumps and dips. This was one purchase I have absolutely, positively, no regrets about. (though I still miss my Acura Integra GSR, dont think I'll ever see them driving around and not long to have mine back...)

Yeah I wash the engine bay every time I wash the exterior. Over 30K and it still looks like off the showroom floor when you lift the hood. Just wish I had a two post lift in the driveway so I could wash the frame and undercarriage too lol.

Looks good! I am another who believes in keeping it clean under the hood; many don't. I don't blast the hose at certain components and I have never had a problem. In fact I think hoses (and other components) last longer if they're kept clean. My old Trooper went to 170k with one belt change and OE hoses. Still runs great and hoses are pliable but not soft/rotting. Vacuum hoses etc are still in good shape... Clean is the way to go.

I agree with the longevity of the plastics/rubbers aspect of keeping the engine bay clean too. I MOSTLY do it for two reasons though: First is resale value, and second is you dont get filthy if you need to maintain/repair something.

I hate working on greasy dirty cars/equipment. I'm a small engine mechanic by trade and we hot water pressure wash all the equipment we work on because it's part of good maintenance practice, and because we dont want to get filthy working on the stuff as well. The added bonus is customers think they just got a totally rebuilt mower back when they see it completely clean and sparkly again lol. Sometimes I wonder if I could just pressure wash their lawnmower and hand it back and they'd be totally happy with just that LOL.

Yeah nothing much more than rain and some road film to contend with here. Not like up north with the nasty winters and road salt.

Thanks. Camera is a cheapie point N shoot Kodak CX7430 4MP. I did a little post work on them in Paint Shop to liven the colors a bit and adjust the contrast. It can save ALOT of pics that were originally not useable, and make them look pretty damn good. Nowhere near professional quality but just fine and dandy for forum posting and pic whoring duties LOL.
 
Regarding your engine bay, what cleaner do you use?

I heard Simple Green is a good choice - spray it, let it sit and rinse off. Do you avoid spraying any areas or can you douse the entire area?

Simple Green does work pretty well... I avoid blasting the power steering reservoir, the brake reservoir and the fuse block. To get those I do a light mist from the hose and I hold the hose so all the water dribbles from above rather blasting the side or underneath.

The fuse box reasoning is obvious... The power steering and brake master cylinder caps are meant to handle some underhood splashing by design. A pressurized blast from the side or underneath may allow water to leak in the caps.

Yea I would avoid those naturally. What about the engine, just go nuts at it? Even with all those wires for the spark plugs, ignition etc?

No matter if it's a truck forum or firearm forum, people demand quality pictures of the items we post about.
This year I decided to upgrade my photo taking systems. Just received a new Canon G10 for the quick pictures. And ordered a new Canon EOS 50D with the AF zoom 17-200mm len system.

I hope these two new cameras will improve the quality of the pictures I take and post in this and my other forums.
 
I dont baby the engine bay in any way. I blast it all down like anything else. These vehicles are weathertight so water should not get where it's not supposed to be. I pressure wash my engines regularly too. The days of old distributor caps and such are long gone. About the only problem that could arrise would be some water around the ignition leads that might cause it to misfire a bit before it evaporates but I've never even had that problem before.

Either way once I'm done washing the engine bay I always start the engine and let it warm up to make sure water in and around engine crevices gets evaporated quickly so no rust/corrosion has time to take place!

Also never use Simple Green on a car that you like. It can make a mess of aluminum and paint. Same thing with the Purple Power stuff. It's too caustic. I just use the same car wash soap (Meguair's Gold Class) and mitt that I washed the body with.
