I recently purchased a 2008 SR5 with 4WD with 70K on it. I love it so far...it's a great upgrade from my Mitsubishi Eclipse. The size and the 4WD were a big reason for the purchase...plus it looks awesome.
While my Eclipse didn't have the smoothest ride, it does seem like it was quite a bit smoother than the 4Runner. I understand they're two completely different vehicles, so I'm not expecting anything unbelievably smooth. But I am guessing all the original stock suspension parts are on it, and I am thinking about upgrading. It rides a little more harshly than I'd like. I've read through the suspension options/FAQ sticky thread, and I got some good info, but I left a little confused.
I guess I am looking for some suggestions for shocks/coils. I don't think I'll be doing much planned offroading. Most of my driving will be on pavement, but it's always nice to have the option. It seems like a lot of people like to go with the Bilstein 5100s. Do I need to do the front and the back at the same time? Do I need to get a certain kind of coils? Is there anything I really need to keep in mind before doing this to my SR5? I'll probably actually be paying someone to do the work for me also. This is a whole new experience for me, and I haven't really modified anything on a vehicle since about 2005-2006.
