***Cracked Dashboard Action Request***

I have an 2004 4Runner and my dash has developed numerous cracks all over it this past year. It it also very soft in areas that you can actually scrape parts of it off such as glue.

Has toyota considered a recall or any help for consumers as of yet? It appears to be quite common from this forum?

Thanks

+1......my "04 sport" dash has developed about 3 very long cracks in the last year....wtf. Toyota quality is crap compared to my 01 honda civic.

Add me to the list. 03 SR5 ..I thought it was just the sun, since I live in Tampa, FL. I was gonna take pics, but mine looks EXACTLY like these!
Looks like they did have a problem in the 03's and changed dash on newer models

We just need to stay on them about it. Besides calling them, make sure you post on their Facebook page...Toyota USA.

I just made another post on Toyota USA about them ignoring this issue. Chime in if you get a chance.

Called Toyota and they referred me to my dealer. Of Course, Dealer is going to tell me to pound sand and call Toyota. My case/file # is 1210091341. Hopefully, more people will call and get Toyota to take notice.

Here's a couple pics of mine, it's kinda hard see the one above the gauges because lighting & iPhone. But it runs all the across that piece

I have the same crack as you do over my gauge bezzel only. I have an 04. Bought mine last December without a crack in the dash, the interior was imacculant, no wear at all including the leather, main reason why I bought it. I say about 2 months back got in the 4r in the morning for work, and low and behold that crack, the whole crack happened in 1 nights time. From the drivers door all the way across the top of gauges and to the radio bezzel. I was devistated :jaw drop:

Hey guys, joining in here. 04 Limited with 110k miles. Above the glovebox, mine is really bad - spider webbed and pieces are even starting to come off. I actually came here to find out about getting a replacement part. I figured if it was $300 or so, I'd just order a new one. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the part is around $1000.

I guess I'll be opening a claim, too, and see where it goes.

Cracked Dash on 2004 Limited

I have been reading and also feeling the pain you guys have been having about the cracked dash issue. I submitted a claim as well and have a case number to add to our issue. I have considered having someone do some type of marine vinyl with some contrast stitching over the dash like you see in newer cadillacs but done very tastefully if I can't get this dash repaired. Below is my case # if anyone needs to refer to it. My 4runner has 110,000 miles on it and I baby the hell out of it! I am not one of those neglectful car owners! We don't deserve this! Ok I'm done for now,

04 Limited V8 - 103k. One smaller crack near glove box and one painfully large one. The big one starts just above glove box, up complete vertical face, 2 inches into upper dash, then left turn for 4-5 inches. Trust me, will kill resale as confirmed by local dealer when i went in to mess around with a new one. They will take off $1,500 from trad as it isn't repairable. Full retail for part is $1,160. Installation is $835. Online the part can be had for around $850 but shipping is around $50. Plan on getting another 8 yrs out of mine so I'm going to suck it up and do the job myself. The manual makes it look a bit harder than the timing belt I just did - probably will eat my whole weekend. HATE the removal of the two airbags.... Don't care what the manual says on precautions. I'll be crapping in my pants when I both disconnect and reconnect both (steering wheel horn assy and passenger) as when I swapped out the steering wheel on my Accord. Will order part within a week then keep you informed on my adventure.

Good luck on the R2. Be very careful and stay clear of those airbags. Being a fire fighter I have had the opportunity to see one deployed on purpose for training. Until you see now violent these things are with your own eyes, you just can't understand it.

Where did you find a replacement for $850 at?

I just completely removed my dash...its really not hard at all..took a lil over an hour...mine will be ouut for a while though and i will look into a new one when i go to put it back in. As for the bags, i have taken several out over the years. Disconnect the battery and turn the key on for a bit to drain any residual power. You could also pull the fuse just in case. Its a bit overkill but it may make you feel more comfortable. You could also stand away from the bag when removing and reinstalling it. The part can be had from www.toyotapartsoutlet.com for around 750....click on the banner for there replacement parts

I thknk the only real difference, besides the lower color, is does yours have a center speaker? Mine is an sr5 with no center speaker

I do wish these posts all had a build month/year so we could figure out if the issues were isolated up to a specific build date.
