Craigslist find in Chicago area

Was browsing on Craiglist and found this:

NEAR MINT! 2000 TOYOTA 4-RUNNER 4X4 LIMITED! LOADED SUV 1 OWNER!

2000 limited 4x4 auto 3.4 with 149k miles asking $3200.

It looks like its in really nice condition and I'm pretty sure it has the Rear Diff lock. It has the button for it at least (unless i got the years screwed up and its a center diff lock but I thought that wasn't until 01/02).

Interior looks good, exterior looks good. Unless the frame is rotting away (totally possible), it looks nice. Ad says one owner too.

I don't see why it would be going for so cheap. If it really is a unicorn deal I would consider flying there to buy it.
 
I just emailed the guy to find out more info. I dont need another but at that price if all checks out I'm tempted to fly out there and drive it back to CO.
 
:jaw: After flight costs, hotel(s), gas, still would easily put $4k in my pocket. It would sell quick here for $8-9k. But ya, heavy frame rust a deal killer.
 
I would get a carfax report on it and request many pictures of the frame. Also, if there are any service records. If all of that comes back clean, then this would be a really good deal assuming there are no other hidden issues (recent pink milkshake, head gasket going ect).

If it was closer to me (I'm north of Milwaukee), I would gladly go check it out for you guys.

I saw that too. I'm about 6 hours from there. Last 4Runner I went to see in chicago that was described as rust free had a disgusting frame under it. But this one looks exceptional. Maybe it's from outside the rust belt originally. Please share what you learn!!
 
Might be a nice one...definitely has the locker. Tough to fully tell from the pics but the hitch should be a lot rustier if the frame was going to be as well since it is stock, unless added late but unlikely to find a rust free stock hitch from a yard in that area.
 
I have purchased 4 different 4runners in Chicago area. ALL had rotting frames and all of the owners were full of sh!t. Why have a purchased 4 ? Because they have been so cheap! I had to get all 4 welded and treated.

If it looks too good to be true, then it usually is. Especially in Chicago!
 
I wouldn't be surprised if there was issues. The price and mileage seem too good to be true but you never know.

Like I said, If I was closer I would go look at it for anyone on here that was interested.
 
I wouldn't touch it knowing it came from that area of the USA.

Just because its clean on top don't mean the same for the bottom.
 
Just because its being sold in Chicago doesn't mean it spent its whole life there. It could be a southern truck for all you know.

It could very well be rotted underneath but my rig spent 90% of its life in wisconsin and the frame is fine. Now it doesn't look perfect but its fine.

Hopefully someone gets some pictures from the guy and some more information. If the frame is even remotely in decent shape it would still be a good deal assuming the rest checks out.
 
Also take into account that all the pictures are taken at Autozone. May have just gotten some very bad news about something mechanical and they said F it, I'm selling it. Also the rust thing. I gladly purchased my Southern Truck for about the same price. The deals are out there, this may or may not be one.

Autozone sells parts, they dont service vehicles,atleast around here they dont.
 
It's amazing to me that these can look SO good and be part-out bound (or even junk yard bound). My truck is pretty clean for Illinois standards but woe be to those who don't keep up with cleaning the undercarriage. Damn you Illinois! I'm an hour away but not in the market. Can't wait to see what the frame looks like...

Beware the frame! I drove an hour last week to look at a 101,000 mile beauty that a dealer had taken in on trade. In the time it took me to get there, they got it on the lift and the frame was literally disconnected in the rear. Interior and body were beautiful and it ran like a champ! They would not sell it to meit was so rotten.
