Craigslist find - Seams pricey.

For sale is my 1997 Toyota 4 Runner 4x4 with the dealer installed TRD supercharger.
This vehicle has 122,000 original miles of which 117,000 were driven by the original purchaser, a recently retired 70 yr. old doctor, who I have been family friends with for the past 22+ years. He bought this 4x4 vehicle with leather interior, power windows, moon roof and power rear window.
Extra accessories on this vehicle include:
1) (original owner) Dealer installed factory TRD supercharger, and exaust $8000.00.
2) (original owner) Toyota TRD rims $3000.00
3) (original owner, except for Clarion head unit and new sub-woofer)Stereo system which includes a Clarion head unit, (2) amps, subwoofer, and Dinan Audio speakers.$5000.00
4) (I had the) Old Man Emu 2 ½" lift kit installed $1200.00
5) ( I had the) Goodyear DuraTrac tires $1100.00.
6) (original owner) JAOS skid plate and bumper guard. $500.00
7) (original owner) PIAA fog lights $350.00

Total accessories $ 19,150.00

The timing belt was replaced at 109,000 miles. Cox Toyota just performed any and all services on the vehicle that they thought it could possibly need in the next 2-3 years. I also have these receipts for you to view.
The enhancements to this vehicle alone cost over $19,000.00 not including the recent "complete" services done by Cox Toyota.

I am asking $10,700.00. You will never find a nicer or well cared for vehicle. The title work will be done at the State Employees Credit Union in Carrboro, N.C. once they have confirmed the funds. It looks like a scam to me. Before I got my 97 I found one on carsforsale.com that had a similar discription and they were "at sea" and could not complete the transaction, their third party " service " would handle the transaction and once they got the money would handle the paperwork and send the truck. TOTAL SCAM and this sounds like it.

I have some retired doctors that are clients of mine and drive modest vehicles.
My dad is a retired lawyer and always drove modest vehicles. I also have a friend here that owns the local small plane airport, has a garage full of BMW's, several motorcycles, planes, etc and still drives around town in an old purple minivan.So yeah, I could see a very successful retired doctor driving around in this.

Not everyone loves automobiles like people on forums like this.
For people like my parents vehicles are nothing more than the means to get from point A to point B. For people like my buddy.....well, nobody really knows why he drives the van around as he loves cars, bikes, planes etc however, he is a modest guy so maybe that has something to do with it. I knew him for a while before I knew he owned the airport and actually has money. Maybe this guy just really loved the truck as it does appear to be nice. Who knows why people buy and keep what they drive.

That being said, I don't care who owned it and what they did for a living.
Just because they were doctor doesn't make the vehicle worth more or less and I think that one is priced a little high even with all the extras.

I dont think its a scam.. and i can imagine that being sold for that price in socal. I googled the number on the ad and it looks like seller is a shooting trainer. All the add-ons are a little on the high side but i dont think its one of those "send money order to xxxx" or "im on vacation in nigeria" etc scams..

I think his mentality when listing was that the average buyer is going to knock off a few hundred to a few thousand off his listing price so its just a working point.

A lot if dealerships build cars for the showroom floor. It's very possible some New Car Manager had the work done to that truck in the attempt to make some additional money on it. That dude could've just walked in and bought that truck with the stuff already done, it happens all the time.

Forget the fact that he thinks the supercharger is $8k installed or the wheels were $3k. Both those can be done for half that.

I paid 4k for my 96 here in SoCal, no way I would consider more than 6500. He's first off got more money than sense, 8k for a 2700$ supercharger who installed it? Someone from a formula one team?

We installed stuff like that all the time when I worked at Cadillac. Build them and them display them in the show room and people will buy it. Everything financed for one payment.

If he's being truthful about the maintenance and has records, I honestly don't think $10k isn't such a bad list price. He's not going to get that much, but it's not a bad starting point and probably serves the purpose of weeding out some lowballers.

I don't see what you guys are getting on about the PO being a doctor. He was only 54 when he bought the truck. A brand-spanking new 4runner with all the bells and whistles is a pretty nice vehicle by any standard, and some people like to hang on to things rather than trading in every few years. :shrug:

The PO was a doctor (according to the CL ad) but in most instances, these are the worst cars to buy.

1 They never due any maintenance to their vehicles ie 10k mile oil changes (being a stereo type)

And

2 They usually live less then 5 minutes from their work so mileage is low but more wear usually happens. The Motor and trans do not get hot enough to burn the moisture that it might have collected the previous drive.
