Crankshaft Pulley "Uh-oh"...requesting opinions

So, I'm in the middle of replacing my timing belt and water pump. Bought the kit from eBay. Yada, yada, yada.

Crankshaft pulley didn't want to come off, so I used a crow bar to break it loose. Unfortunately, it didn't break free as nicely as I would have liked (see pic).

Question, should I replace the crankshaft pulley?

There's a T100 at the local pick-n-pull that may have one and a 3rd gen 4runner at a pick-n-pull about an hour away that may have one as well.

List for a new one is $400+...OUCH!!

Save yourself the headache, while this one is off, get another, whichever route u go, New or used. Looks like it could potentially shred a belt. Next time use a puller!

Wow how did you manage to do that? I just took mine off as well and all it took was 10 minutes of wiggling it back and forth with some WD-40 in the mix. I'd definitely replace that since it's off already. The balance might be off because of the missing pieces.

If you have the pieces and they're in good shape you could use some JB Weld and then smooth it all out with a file and dremel tool. It's a long shot but we'll worth the try. It's pretty much there to keep your belt in place. But seriously, what were you thinking? That may be a $400 mistake.

Whatever you do, don't use it the way it is. It will destroy your belt.

Getting a crank pulley from a pick n pull yard will more than likely be many times harder than the one you just pulled off. You're better off finding a wrecking yard that will pull the part for you.

Just lucky I guess. First time doing this and didn't know any better. Lesson learned.

I have the URD SuperGrip pulley and have been happy with it:

Crankshaft Pulley - Underdog Racing Development

I had a similar problem getting it off and ended up snapping grade 8 bolts in the holes in my original pulley trying to remove the crank bolt. You can find nice used OEM ones for < $100 but for another $150 I figured why not. It was very nice installing the new pulley and runs smooth.

+1 for the URD / lightweight pulleys. I love mine - My OEM pulley destroyed itself when the woodruff key sheared.

Yes, the first two in the pic would probably work for our pulleys. The pullers can hurt the pulley also so it would be important to put some steel stock behind the pulley arms so you're not directly pulling on the edge of the pulley.
