Well, today has sucked. So I was on my lunch today. Going to turn right out of the parking lot at my office onto a really busy street. Can't turn left, only to the right. Sitting there looking to the left at oncoming traffic. See an opening and start to go, and as I look back to the right as I'm starting to go, I see a guy on a bike last second. Hit the brakes and see the guy swerve on his bike and then hit the front driver's side of my car. No bike lane, no sidewalk, riding on the wrong side of the road against traffic. So I stop and check on the guy. His bike is fine, no broken skin or anything. Claims his wrist was sore, but that was it. Gave him my information, and we each went on our way.

So now, I'm trying to figure out how to repair the damage. Probably don't want to put in claim as it probably won't cost more than the deductible. Anyone know the part for the upper portion around the grill for a 2014 SR5? The rest I think can be buffed out, but I think I have to replace this part.

That doesn't look bad at all.

Go to your local walmart or auto store and buy some scratch remover. Apply the scratch remover to the area and buff pretty hard by hand for about 30 seconds. Do this 2-3 times and it should be gone.

I only see one small spot where it went through the paint and you can see a black dot? If so get touch up paint for that spot.

That's what I figured, but was really worried about that one spot. I figured I should be able to just replace that one top piece around the grill, right? Anyone have idea of the part number?
 
Glad everyone was OK.

That's like a $175 part - color matched and everything! The same part you'd use if you wanted to do an "off-the-truck" Satoshi grille mod. No time to find the part # now, but I believe it is listed in the Satoshi grille thread. Locating the proper color in the part # will likely be the hardest part...

*EDIT* - Looks like a '14 or '15 - will be a different part # than the '10-'13 models mentioned in the Satoshi grille thread...

I'd also try Meguiar's Scratch-X first - might do well enough to pass muster (might need to re-apply every few months)...

I almost had the same type accident happen to me a year or so ago. The idiot bike rider was going the wrong direction on a busy highway next to a guard rail with no room for a bike and car to fit in the lane.
 
You'll probably be pleasantly surprised by how much of that will come out with just a good cleaner wax or mild compound. Good luck.
 
Suggest some TR3, it's a mild rubbing compound and should take the black out without much effort.

More concerned about that guy coming back to place blame for the accident. Might be worth calling to get a police report on file so it doesn't come back to haunt you.

Also, expect a call from bike guy's attorney.

He will go to the ER within the next few days, and he'll be in a "I has sooo much pain and suffering" c-collar and sling the next time you see him.

I'd call a lawyer, now.

You really think I should call police now? Even though we didn't at scene? And he was riding on wrong side of road against traffic in the roadway, which is against the law.

Definitely!

Wasn't your fault, biker didn't request help and was on his way . . . not like a hit-and-run. I would make sure to have an officer to write up the report about everything that biker did wrong. If biker starts having second thoughts about digging into your wallet you covered your ass.

Hold off on attorney, that's instant $'s, hopefully you won't hear from the biker.

Take advantage of the free stuff first.

Well, there was an eye witness that stopped and gave his business card. I was rattled and didn't really know what to do. Never experienced anything like this. And I did call insurance to give them my story just in case he did call.

Edit: OK, I just called the police dept. and they said I had to come in to give a report. So I guess I'll go in when they open in the morning.

do it to CYA man..... people will sue for anything. My dog bit another dog after it snapped at her and I got sure a month later for $300k! true story! emotional distress.... if my dog would have killed that little POS it would have cost me $200 buck

Actually, I've thought about suing you for emotional distress many times...

It is stuff like this why I have a dash cam; very inexpensive CYA to install given the potential of what it can do.
 
And since you are in California, be sure to file a DMV form (I think its form SR2 or something like that). This tells DMV you were in an injury accident (Owee, my wrist hurts) and you have insurance. If they dont get that form from you and Johnny bike rider files a report, you will get your drivers license suspended. That will REALLY suck.

I feel for ya bro. I went though the same thing, wrong way bike rider ran into the side of my car. The law says the bike has to ride as far as possible to the right side of the roadway. So he is in the wrong. No point is getting in the grease when you are right.
