OK, I need ya'll ideas. I've had this 4R all of about 1 week. It's a 99, 2WD, automatic with 202K. It's been running great. Have had it at highway speed many times, no issues.
Then yesterday I took it on the first "long trip" of about 600 miles round trip. Was cruising along at 70mph no problem, like always. Then about an hour into the trip it started shaking like I threw a weight. Mildly at first and then gradually got worse till it felt like it would shake apart. Pulled off the highway and checked all tires and they were fine. No weights gone. No bulges on the tires. (They're brand new, less then 5000 miles).
I did notice grease inside both rear wheels, so both rear axle seals seam to be blown (it's going to Toyota tomorrow for that). The U-joint had been replaced by the previous owner. I saw nothing broken or out of place. Got back on the highway, nothing. No shake. 35 minutes later it starts again, mild to wild. Stopped on the shoulder, checked the tires again, nothing. Took off, no problem.
every 45 minutes to an hour the whole trip it was doing it, and only at highway speed. I felt nothing driving in town. All I had to do was come to a complete stop and then go again and the shaking would stop.
WTH is going on? Any ideas?
