Crazy oil leak

22RE, I did notice a slight drip after about 200 miles at the front crank seal. I already replaced the seal when I did the timing chain and head gasket 2000 miles back. I polished the shaft and it was pretty clean.

I just drove 150 miles at highway RPM's and the lower front of the engine is soaked and oil was definitely slinging around. It looks like its from the front seal but as I run at idle in the garage there is no sign of a leak.
I'll clean the heck out of the oil and try to nail the definite location. What's surprising I would barely get a drip after 150 miles and now its gushing.
Anyone else have experiences with the front seal or dramatic oil leaks at the front of the engine? I read some folks have had issues with the timing cover but I would hope to hear if the tensioner guide failed and the chain was destroying the cover.

After too many miles the seal can wear on the front output, grinding it down far enough that it doesn't seal anymore. When it does, you've got three options - replace/rebuild the crank, sleeve the front output, or get a new seal and flip it around so it rides on fresh metal. You can guess which one I did.

Not saying that's your trouble, but if you get it cleaned up and it still looks like it's coming off the front main, that's probably why.

What a pain cleaning the well lubricated front end and engine. Ran it for a bit and with the shop light just right you could see small droplets of oil slinging out. I pulled the oil pump and popped out the front seal.
Yup, never heard of flipping the seal but I guess if that's the only option to seal it for the way home then its a great idea.
