Creek side camping?

I did end up going to 7 oaks and it was perfect and it's not that far!!!

Does anyone have a copy of the campsites to upload? I can't find a recent one, the only one on the internet is outdated.
 
Did you really just respond back after almost two years of your original post letting us know you stayed at 7 oaks and then ask for an updated version of that area, almost 2yrs still can't find one? Lol

First off, a big thank you to [MENTION=101759]Chsbrgr[/MENTION] [MENTION=23862]masson74[/MENTION] for the recommendation it's a great spot, it's just tiny.. I'll post up some pics, it was easy to get to, cell reception, perfect amount of nature blend.

I had to call Steve up there to Mail me a copy because they dont use fax or e-mail! lol

I have it as a PDF if anyone wants a copy.. hit me up.

Good to hear. I'm taking the family, and some friends up there a couple weekends from now. We're gonna fish and maybe hike. Any recommendations?

How's the store and restaurant?

Store is great, the land is privately owned and the people are nice, stuck in the 70s/80s ... Steve is the main guy there and he's super cool.

Recommendation is try to stay away from camping right by the bridge if you have kids, they can make it across and into the shrubs in less than a minute. I saw it happen lol.

There is a hike right by the camp ground, it's beautiful and long. You have to pick a spot to turn around.

Looks awesome, definitely post some more pics if you don't mind. I love the hand drawn map lol thanks for posting it. It'll help me make the reservation. How are the restrooms there?

[MENTION=123332]Drunner97[/MENTION] when I spoke with Steve he mentioned they've started stocking a couple weeks ago. My boys and I will be fishing, so I'll report back our experience.
 
Great thread. There are lots of places up the 395 starting in Lone Pine which is 240 miles from here. Most are tree lined and the sites are right on the creeks. This campground is a little further north between Independence and Big Pine.

Regarding Seven Oaks:

Definitely a nice little spot with access to off-road and hiking trails. The rules and prices are more like guidelines. My friends who were there purchased a couple sodas from the store and in the same transaction, one was $1 and the other was $1.50.....

Restaurant food was ok and about what I expected (frozen hamburger patties).

Fishing seems to be non-existent unless they plant. We tried spots along the creek up to about a mile East of the campground with no success. I saw at least 10 others try their luck, and the ones I spoke with had no luck.

Campsites are little close for my comfort, but I'd go back again when so long as it's not a busy weekend.
 
Thank you for reviving this thread. I have been looking for places along the water to camp, this is great info!
