cruise / neutral safety switch problems

1998 3rd gen owner. I am having issues with not being able to shift out of park unless i push the little manual release button. The cover is gone off this button. I also cant get my cruise light to stay on and cruise doesnt work. Are these related? Neutral safety switch perhaps?

Excellent post. If your brakes lights are on the cruise won't go on. But if they won't turn on (like with a dead battery) then you can't shift out of park. So I'm not sure what is the problem, but it could likely be related to a short in the brake light circuit.
